1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Would you loan someone your doll or ask to borrow one?

Aug 24, 2008

    1. No. No. And no. I don't even let people touch my Pullips, and they're less expensive (and less breakable, I would think.)

There's only two people I'd trust with a doll like this. But this is only in a case of emergency (if I had to evacuate my house or something.) One is my best friend who lives in Texas, and the other is my ex-boyfriend. They're both responsible people who care about me, so I'd feel safe, knowing they would take good care of any dolls I entrusted to them.

      Otherwise, no.

    2. Tricky question!

I would lend it to my sister, if she would ever ask me. and perhaps to one or two of my best be trusted friends... who I know would treat her like I would.

But, I would not lend it to any other friend, if I don't could follow her and see whats happening *_*

But... I have asked some other doll owners for measurements, just to be able to sew my homecoming doll something nice. Then I can sew a dress and give to that doll, and in that way see if the sizing is right. So, there is one way to go.

    3. Lol, my most beloved guy, Rai is staying over at Indigestion..'s house right now xD
He's staying over for... well.... a shoot with his girlfriend, who belongs to Indigestion.. and just... random... staying overness *shrugs* :'D

She's a dollowner, and I trust her completely with my guy, so for me it's no problem :B
As for a non-dollowner... I wouldn't trust them to take care of my dolls, no experience yet xD

    4. Funny, I've had someone ask me this :|

My answer is no on this one unless I know the person very well, and know where they live and all that jazz. I'm very protective of my belongings especially when they cost so much.

The girl who asked me if she could borrow my dolls was rude, and I only knew her for a day at the time she asked. *_* so of course my answer was no.

    5. My sister has been VERY strongly hinting that she'd like to take one of my boys to her work with her. She shows her co-workers my website sometimes and they want to see them in person. I find myself VERY reluctant to let her, though! I'm sure she'd be careful, but I just don't want to lend them out. I'm hoping soon I can visit her work and take one with me, maybe.

So, no, I don't think I would ever lend one out, unless it was to a close BJD-owning friend or something.

    6. I find the idea of swapping dolls with a dolly friend to be pretty exciting. As far as borrowing goes, I would feel comfortable with almost any of my close friends handling my "babies" for a while, even non-dolly friends. I think that you don't necessarily have to own a doll to know that it's a valuable piece of property, or at least something meaningful to the owner. Since I have my own dolls I would probably feel a little silly if I were to ask someone else to borrow theirs.

And in terms of short-term lending as in, holding a doll for a half-day duration at a convention or meet-up, sewing something while I'm visiting somebody's house or something, I actually love sharing my dolls with other people so long as I know they've washed their hands beforehand (I'm a stickler for dolly-related hygiene, for some reason) and have the assurance that no careless behavior will take place. ^^

    7. Let me see now... Yes I would do that. To people I trust and know will be careful with my dolls. I would not let people who treats their own dolls "bad" in my eyes (putting them in sunlight, being not careful etc.), and I would not loan them to a non-doll-owner or someone that "grabs" them without my permission - doll owner or not.

    8. If I trusted the person and we hung out a lot, I wouldn't mind loaning a doll out for comparison purposes, sewing, or whatever else. I wouldn't ask to borrow a doll though because I usually draft patterns from measurements.

    9. To me, it's not that different from sending your doll to an artist for blushing. If an artist advertised free body blushing, you might take the artist up on that. If a seamstress offered a free custom outfit, I'm sure someone would take her up on the offer and send their doll off. Since I've toyed with this idea, I would make the free outfit as well as a "junk" outfit--after it's sewn together and I know it fits right, I take it apart for pattern pieces. ^_^ Then I'd send the doll home dressed in its new outfit with a thank you letter and a business card. I love my girls to pieces, and I'd miss them like crazy while they were gone, but I would loan someone one of my dolls. Provided I have one home to keep me company. ^_^

Now, I wouldn't loan Anne to my friend Justin for an art project because he'd probably take her apart. But I would loan her to my friend Bri because I know she loves Anne as much as I do. It would be a case-by-case basis. But if a fairly local DoA user wanted to borrow Anne or Erin, I'd probably send her off. We're a family, right? ^_^

    10. I've babysat my friends doll before, and let her babysit one of my too. I think it is not a bad thing to loan or borrow someone else's doll so long as you know them and trust them, and they do the same for you.

    11. I wouldn't send any of my dolls off to anyone who asked- thats just silly. On the other hand, I have no problem leaving dolls at friends houses when I know them well and they either have dolls or like and would take care of my dolls. I have left dolls with local DOA members, and let my boyfriend keep one of "the kids" for a week at his house (his mom wasn't so happy about that). As long as I know the person won't do anything stupid with my dolls and I know where they live (so if there is a problem I can still get my doll back) I don't have a problem with it! ^_^

    12. I don't think I could live with the idea of not having my dolls with me... I mean, it'd be ok if I were travelling and not be able to take them with me for a while... I'd be ok with that, but I don't think I could lend my dolls to someone...

    13. I would never ask someone else to see if I can borrow their doll. I would be super nervous everytime at the idea of making a scratch mark. My friends around me tend to be verrry sensitive that a hail comes when they find this tiny little dent in the faceup (which I have a hard time seeing even after I'm informed). One of them always use gloves when touching a doll too. But I wouldn't mind lending them my doll, and I have many times. I know they'll take care of my dolls better than myself and it's lent for the good use (making clothes etc.).

    14. It depends on how well I know the person, but chances are, no I would not.

I have lent out various things in the past, and almost all of them I never got back, or got back in nearly destroyed condition.

I don't think I would ever ask to borrow someone else's doll. It seems silly to me.

    15. There's only one person I would loan my doll to, and she's also a doll collector and lives near me.
I would let her borrow my doll to have in her room but not to take on vacation or whatever.

and I think I have asked in passing if I could ever borrow her doll to sew her something, and she said it was fine, as long as I was careful.

I also have a few more doll friends that I trust enough to borrow my dolls, and my 2 friends that are obsessed with my BJD and treat him like gold, but that's it.
      I wouldn't trust anyone else.

    16. Never.

    17. Uh... no? Yeah.. no.. Deffidently not. I am rather possesive about my things, especially my dolls. I would never let someone borrow one of them for any amount of time. If they do not have their own dolls, they would certainly not know how to handle, touch or carefor a doll. They would do who knows what with them, and Id probably worry sick about my doll. So the answer is obsolutly not.

I would however consider sending a doll to another doll owner. But that is if I trust them and have known them for a while.

    18. I actually like the idea of lending dolls out. If someone I knew would take photos of them, or sew for them, definitely. And I wouldn't limit myself to just people I knew in person. If it was someone I knew over the net that I felt I could trust, definitely.

As for asking, I think I'd prefer if the other person brought it up, because I can be rather shy and all, even with my close friends...but I think it'd be a fun idea to swap dolls for a couple weeks.

    19. If I can trust the person, they are used to dolls and know about the same amount as i know atm (which is, honestly, not very much even though I've been interested for a few years already) and if I know they would do the same for me, sure. But I guess that's what is needed. It would be even better if they already have other dolls, though, 'cause that way i'd really know what kind of dollowner they are.

    20. I would normally have said "no problem", but I'm waiting for my beloved doll to return from a new face-up, and she was with a very trusted person, but she is taking too long to get here and I'm petrified the post office has lost her! I am never, ever putting a doll in the mail again!
