1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Would you loan someone your doll or ask to borrow one?

Aug 24, 2008

    1. I have loaned out a few of my dolls to a dear friend and fellow seamstress so, yes. I am not sure whether I would do so to anybody else on earth, but, hey, one never knows. I have not borrowed dolls, however. Since I have pets and a chaotic hoursehold, I probably wouldn't want the responsibility of doing so.

    2. I've loaned a doll to one of my friends back in high school and recently found out I actually made him get into dolls. He was collecting Disney LE dolls for the longest but finally got his first BJD. I felt really happy when he told me I was the reason he has such a big hole in his bank account... Though I probably should've felt guilty instead. Haha... The thing is, I've showed my dolls to a lot of people and even made presentations about them back in college but my friend is pretty much the only person who ever got interested in them and started collecting himself so naturally, I feel happy. ^_^

    3. Under no circumstances would I loan any of my dolls to anyone, including family members.
I am more than happy to let others "play" with or hold my dolls as long as it is under my supervision aka with me firing off death glares.

I do this for my own sanity, this way if something were to happen to them, I would be the only one to blame.
Furthermore, I am not the type of collector who is content just gluing back broken pieces. I am extremely finicky.

    4. Lending- Only if the person is a friend who own BJDs and takes good care of them
Borrowing- I wouldn't ask to borrow a doll, but I kept a doll at a friend's house while I moved, and I would do the same for her or another friend if they asked.

    5. I think I would loan my dolls to a local seamstress to customize their clothing. I wouldn't dare to borrow a doll though.

    6. I honestly did loan out one of my dolls to a friend. I have a resin soul Rong and one of my best friends have been looking into getting a bjd for a long time. Since before I even knew her as we have a mutual friend into this hobby. The same one who got me into this hobby. At a sleep over she bonded with my resin soul girl. Dressed her up did her hair even started looking online to buy her some lashes. She carried her all around the house and kept taking pictures of her it was so cute. And she kept saying she wished she could make some clothes for her so when our sleep over came to an end I packed her in a carrier bag and told my friend take her with her for a while I would come get her at a later date. She ended up not having time to make her anything but she gave me constant updates on how my doll was doing and took a few pictures with her and seem to just enjoy her. When I did finally get her my friend said she missed having her around and ended up picking out a resin soul doll she wants for herself but being an SD doll and costing a bit more she has some saving to do. It does depend on the person though. I trust her became she had already been experienced with the dolls from another friend and she doesn't have any kids around her and I have watched her handle my dolls. But for some of my other friends I don't think I would have done the same.

    7. I would only do it if I knew the person well and they lived nearby. And by know them well I mean a person I hang out with regularly and i'd probably be involved and witness to the process of their project anyway

    8. trustworthy friends and tailor/seamstresses with a good reputation => yes
I've been on the receiving end of this trust so I feel I should pay the goodwill forward (or reciprocate)

    9. No, I don't think I will ever do either of those things. The reason for this is that I don't trust myself with keeping other people's dolls safe, and therefore I don't trust them either.

    10. Nope. Nope. Nope. I wouldn't have a reason to borrow a doll, nor would I think anyone would have a good enough reason to borrow mine. I don't completely trust anyone but myself with my dolls.

    11. No, I would never loan one of my dolls to someone or ask to borrow one. You can't completely trust anybody, i'd only have myself to blame if my doll got damaged while someone else was in possession of it. I'd have to fully rely on them not to expose my dolls to the sunlight (taking it outside in the sunshine) for example, which they may think is okay to do but for me that's a no no.Just because they might own BJD's doesn't mean they'll be so careful with yours or meet the standards of care you expect. My BJD's are too fragile/valued/pricey for me to do that and I certainly wouldn't expect someone to lend me one of their dolls.

    12. I feel like BJDs are so valuable and also so delicate that I'd only really feel comfortable lending it to a friend if I could also trust them to repay me for any damages caused... I personally wouldn't feel comfortable borrowing a doll either - so much pressure! Though maybe that'll change once I'm more experienced & comfortable with handling BJDs.

    13. I have mailed my dolls to people before, but I don't think I would do it again. Being on the road for six hours in one day just to pick up a doll, or waiting for months to get one mailed back is very stressful. Even if you trust the person, emergencies happen, accidents happen, or you could have a falling out. Things could screw up in a way that they can't send the doll back and you can't go get it. Now, I don't let anyone but my sister who lives 10 minutes away take my dolls.

    14. I would loan out my bjds to my best friend who is also a doll hobbyist and who I know would treat my dolls with care, and to my partner who knows how valuable and loved my dolls are.
Other people in the doll hobby, probably not as not everyone places care in their actions.

    15. I would never lend out my doll to anyone. Normally I would have no problems with letting my friends borrow something from me, but I feel a doll, especially a bjd, is a different story altogether, the same goes for other things I handle with the utmost of care. I put a lot of time and effort trying to keep my dolls in the best condition possible and keeping them tidy and pretty, and plus I'm super attached to them, as I also put a lot of thought into giving them personalities and stories, and so the thought of letting someone borrow them just is out of the question. Likewise, I wouldn't even think of asking someone to lend me their dolls. I know that I would handle them very carefully and that I would ensure that I return it to them safely and as soon as I could, but still... I feel that if I wouldn't like having someone ask that of me, then I have no right to ask that of someone else.

    16. I would loan my doll to close friends whom also in the hobby because they will know how to treat the doll well. International loan? Definitely no. It's too risky. If something happen to the doll and the borrower don't want to take responsibility..it's a nightmare!

    17. No chance. I would never lend any of my dolls to anyone, nor would I ever ask to borrow someone's doll.
I feel like I need sedating just sending heads out for face-ups.

    18. It would really depend on who it is, if it is someone who has experience with BJDs then I wouldn't mind letting them borrow my doll. I would still feel pretty nervous about doing so though. I wouldn't let them keep it for an extremely long period of time either. I don't see any reason why I would ask to borrow someone else's doll. Even if someone did feel comfortable letting me borrow one I'd still feel uncomfortable doing so. It'd be a big responsibility!

    19. I would only ask someone if I was absolutely desperate. (But I can't really see myself in that situation.) And I think I'd rather ask them if we could just hang out for a day (if we're friends) and they could bring their doll. If they already trust me and we are really close, I don't see myself having as much of a problem borrowing from someone.
If it was someone else asking me, I would definitely NOT let them borrow my precious babu unless I could really trust them. I'd first have to know what they plan on using it for, and if they are actually known for doing that thing. However, I wouldn't mind them borrowing it if I was in their company, monitoring them. (I have trust issues.)

    20. I don't think so it's such an expensive item and it has so much emotional and sentimental value like I understand that sometimes things happen and stuff gets scratched or damaged or broken I don't think that there would ever be a situation where I would be comfortable with something like that regardless of the situation. Continuing on with that I would never under any circumstances be comfortable asking anyone to borrow their doll, to me they just seem terribly personal.
