Wow! He/She is sooo small/tall!?? Being surprised by size!

Jun 12, 2012

    1. I have this almost every time I buy a doll lately because I'm a horrible judge of size. My first doll was just shocking and she's not an odd size or anything (Luts Delf girl). I had measured out 60cm with my measuring tape before she arrived but that wasn't enough. When I got my Kid Delfs I was shocked by how light and tiny they are compared to SD-size dolls. Then I got one of those 68cm Model Doll girls from Dollmore and damn, but that girl is mostly leg. She has the glamour bust too so she's quite heavy. But the one that takes the cake is definitely my EID. I had no idea he would be so much bigger than my SDs -- I swear, carrying him around is like carrying a baby or something, he's HUGE.

So yeah, even 13 dolls down the line, somehow they always surprise me when I first take them out of their boxes. And some of them, like my EID and my Model Doll, just keep surprising me :p

    2. Did you felt like this? You know how tall/small he/she is but you still wonder every time about the size.

Yes, It happened when I got my first BJD and still happens to me whenever I get a new doll (because none of the dolls
I own are the same size/scale/aesthetics). When I was getting my first, I got SD-sized DollHeart shoes for her and thought
they were huge (which they are/were!) I wasn't sure I wanted a doll as massive and had second thoughts but she was
already paid for and I couldn't cancel. Then when I got her I thought she was way smaller than I had anticipated (she's
a Dollfie Dream), the DollHeart shoes were too big on her but I guess that's just because V.SDs have huge bulky feet in
comparison and not because they are that much taller. It was the same with all my other dolls so far, my second was
my first full-resin and although I was hoping he would be taller he wasn't – he was a lot heavier however (he is still my heaviest
doll so far). My first mini seemed to big at first until I got a 67cm doll, then I thought my first tiny was not tiny enough and
my first mature tiny seems too small! Lol! ^ ^;; I think the only one that seemed just the right size was my SoulDoll Bebe Aku,
he is just perfect; I love all my dolls equally but Aku was the first BJD where size didn't surprised me (although his weight did,
since he is a SoulDoll like my heaviest, I thought he would be too).

    3. Yes! I got my MSD pretty quickly, impulse buy, and when she arrived I was shocked at how big and heavy she was. Then with my SD I thought I was prepared, I'd seen a picture of a friend's SD up against another doll we both collect and knew she was huge, but when she arrived she was still a shock size and weight wise.
i'm going to be buying a yoSD soon and I have her size all worked out as I have other dolls that size and I'm always buying yoSD sized clothes for them. How heavy she will be I'm sure will surprise me though.
I also have a Zuzu Delf coming and she is a total mystery to me size and weight wise. Haha

    4. xD;; I think i'm the opposite of most people... when I received my first doll, an MSD, I was kinda expecting/wishing he'd be taller/bigger xD; but I've grown accustomed to the size (I have 3 of them now). My favorite height was, is, and probably will be 70cm however; when I received my SSDF he was just as tall as I expected him to be, not taller or shorter. As for my tiny he was just what I expected him to be also. c:

    5. I was only really surprised on arrival by a doll I just got last week. Dollzone Star. I was honestly expecting a 18-20cm little thing about the size of an anthro and what I got was bigger than a YO. By a lot lol
It was great, I think if he'd been as small as I thought he'd be, I wouldn't like him as much.

I was also surprised by my first doll. He was the first doll I'd ever seen and handled so I thought he was normal or averaged sized for an SD sized doll. Until I took him to my first doll meet. Holy hell he's tiny. All the other dolls (a lot of Volks SD13s and Luts Delfs) looked ENORMOUS next to my skinny, short Kara Klum. I was so shocked I kept asking everyone what size their dolls were XDD I was sure they were all 70cms!
It did make a lot of sense-I finally understood why none of the clothes I bought would fit him!

    6. I don't remember how I felt about the size when I saw my first doll but it wasn't surprise, I was probably waiting for something bigger but I don't really know^^

I'm currently waiting for a new size for me, a Soom Faery legend and I've been trying to know more about this size so I can have something ready for him when he comes. So far, I know he can wear the same wig size as pukis! 0.o but they are a little bit taller than Yo-SDs. Needless to say, I'm highly anticipating his arrival!! I'm curious to see if I will like his size and I'm still surprise that his head is about the same size as a puki puki head!

    7. My first bjd wasn't really a bjd, but parts. Hooves and a Soom msd sized head.
Though the weight surprized me! I collected Pullips before I got into bjd's and their weight is so much less compared to bjd's :D

    8. When I received my first ball-jointed doll less than two months ago, I was like, "Wow, this box seems smaller than I thought it would be." And when I opened it, it was the small thought, except about the doll (a Kid Delf, so MSD). I had it in my head that she would be taller and a little bit heavier, but she was far from it. I love her to pieces, though I do with she was a bit taller sometimes. :)

    9. I've had this with several.

My first, Amir, my AoD Chen was 46cm. I had never seen a BJD irl before. I had converted his size to inches and was thinking he'd be about American Girl size....I was shocked at how tiny he seemed! He's really NOT tiny for MSD, but I'd just never had a doll that height with adult proportions before.

I got 3 others within the next year or so (2 DZ boys and a BBB girl) before getting my ResinSoul Lu. I assumed she'd be the same size as my BBB Pixie, since Junkyspot had her listed as a BBB, so I used my Pixie to make clothes for my Lu while waiting....and OMG, everything fell off of her! Her head is a size 5, she's 40cm.....TINY! and I didn't like her at first because of it. After getting used to her, I fell in love, but it took some time.

Most recently, I was surprised by Only-Doll. I got my YiFeng in November, he was in the very first batch, nobody owned one yet. The size was pretty standard, but he's SO light weight, I almost threw him when I first picked him up! and last month I got an O-D Lu Er head for one of my boys and was surprised at how teeny it is. It's an SD head, but is closer to MSD size, taking a 7-8 wig. It's a girl head, but I'm making it a boy and it's so small it won't even fit on the SD boy body! That's okay though, since I'll be sticking him on a Doll Chateau body anyway.

    10. My first doll was Andy from Cherish Dolls--and I KNEW he would be tiny but I was super, super surprised just as to HOW tiny he was compared to other YoSDs. It wasn’t until I got my other YoSD who is more of a standard size that I realized exactly how little he is. So CUTE!

    11. I was almost shocked by how little my Minifee is! She's a good few cm shorter than my DollZone mini, but the difference in her torso is so odd-- while Ama is square and kind of thick with joints, Puppy is elegant and slender. Her head is also so bitty!

In terms of overall size, the size of the box my Puki Puki came in was a surprise. I knew I was expecting a small doll, but she was so tiny! It made my Pukifee feel huge by comparison when she arrived a few months later.

    12. I think my reaction to all my current dolls was 'Oh wow, taller than I thought!' Especially for my SD10 haha. I was about ready to package him and send him back to where he came from xD;;;; (he's still with me though and I love him so <3 ). I'm kinda bad at judging sizes xD;

    13. I'm the opposite - my first Minifee Shushu seemed HUGE when she first came home! At the time I only had a pukifee, who roughly came up to her knee, so she seemed like a giant by comparison. I started small though - my first doll was around 15cm and she seemed tiny to me, even though I knew what her measurements were.

    14. Paul was my first, and he is SD size. I did a lot of research before I bought him, so I knew his measurements before he came. However, I think there's a difference between knowing the measurements and actually conceptualizing the size and weight of your doll before he/she comes home. I have to admit I was surprised by how big and heavy Paul is, when I first took him out of the box. I guess most of my surprise stemmed from the fact that with my first, I didn't have any basis for comparison. I wasn't surprised by the size/height/weight of the others in my doll family.

    15. My Unoa Azurite and iplehouse SID man turned out smaller than expected. (the SID is huge but I got him with an EID man so he seemed tiny in comparison)
      I was also surprised by my Unoa chibi, but I'm not sure what I was expecting size-wise xD;;

the only doll I can think of that didn't surprise me at all was a luts delf. actually normal SD dolls in generals are pretty much the size I expect them to be :)

    16. I collected large vintage dolls before BJD's so SD's weren't a big surprise but I got one of those 90cm guys and whoa...he was huge! I am still amazed to see him standing around.

    17. I've only brought home SD boys (62cm and up), and each time a new resident shows up, I am surprised by how much smaller/lighter he is than I expected! Even Soom's Idealian line didn't faze me - I just always seem to expect a little more than what actually shows up. ^^

The only exception to the was Volks Masamune. When he arrived, I found that his weight and stature were just about spot-on to what I expected. :huh?: I thought that I may be getting better at judging them... but the next boy to show up proved me wrong yet again.

    18. Since I'm the one that did the research, and I saw pictures of others holding their dolls, I wasn't surprised by how big they were. But even though I described all this to my husband, he was really surprised. Even though I got my first doll in pieces, he was shocked at how big her head was

    19. my first was a standard sd. no surprises there. but when it comes to weight, i am constantly amazed when i get something from another company i am not familiar with. and my Mom's EID, that boy is a killer. she has only taken him out once and he was parked the minute she found a spot lol! you need muscles for them beasts.

    20. Bubbles was my first doll. My friends have various sized dolls so I figured that he wouldn't be much taller than some of those...

Boy was I shocked when I opened his box!!

62cm of long legged resin! It's taller than you think...
