Wow! He/She is sooo small/tall!?? Being surprised by size!

Jun 12, 2012

    1. When I first got my Supia Nael, I was prepared for the size. Her size didn't necessarily shock me, but it was her size combined with how skinny she was! It just emphasized her size >.<

    2. I wasn't shocked by the size of MY first doll because I had already seen one in person. But I was really shocked the first time I saw my friends SD SOOM doll. I had seen photos but was not ready for just how big she was going to be. Id never seen any measurements so when I stood her up I realised just how massive they are. I still cant get over how heavy they can be either. Photos just don't convey there true scale.

    3. Haha I've never seen any other doll in person - but for some reason I feel like all Soom dolls are huge, I don't know why >.<

    4. When I was a kid, I played with Ginny dolls and loved them so when I ordered a YoSD I thought I would like it because it was the same size. However, I didn't. I had trouble making clothing to that size and even had trouble getting a good feel for her (also my eyes are much older and that could be part of it). I sold her. I like the MSD size as well as the SD13 but also have a Soom 80cm boy now. My Soom boy is so big I'm not sure I'll ever get him to work with the girls, but he had characteristics that I wanted for a character so I am sure I'm going to learn to live with him. Would love to try one of the big Dollmore Lusion girls but probably will never have the $ for one.

    5. My first doll was 70 cm. I spent some time trying to prepare for just how big he would be but it didn't really quite click until I actually saw him in person. Now I'm waiting for a tiny and I keep picturing him being about barbie size, so I know I'm going to be shocked when I see him in person.

    6. Yep, stunned! My first boy was my introduction for sure. Many times I got a tape measurer and tried to imagine the size and girth. But no amount of measuring can replace the awe of a real SD, and a while after that I was shocked with my first 70 cm boy. Thankfully i'm a boy and can deal with the weight of these little giants. =)

    7. I was never really stunned by size myself. The only thing that has surprised me so far with size is, how much taller my boy was then my girl. Wasn't expecting that. As I thought my girl was normal SD size, turns out she's a little shorter then normal SD girls. Lol.

But when my boyfriend saw mine for the first time. He was surprised at how small they were. He thought they were gonna be bigger. XD
I guess I make 'em look bigger in my photos (which he actually mentioned), which I fin to be a compliment. 8D

    8. I felt the same way when my first doll from dollzone arrived early February this year. I was like "woohaa! what is this, he's really-really huge!" Now I 've gotten quite used to his size but still gets some real backache when posing him. He's a real trubble-poser.

    9. I first saw dolls "in person" at a meet-up. I was already set on owning 60cm dolls, but the ones I got to hold at the meet-up were both bigger and smaller, lighter and heavier than I expected. Yes, that's possible  because I didn't know what to expect, I suppose! Even today I'm still in awe at the weight and density of my 1/3 dolls: it's such a pleasure to hold them.

When I bought my first mini, I couldn't get over how light and small she was compared to my bigger dolls. That's probably why my fling with minis was short-lived: they just didn't have the same presence and gravity that I wanted in my dolls.

Also, it throws me how dolls from different companies differ in weight, despite being the same height. After buying a Volks MSD, I got a Soom Little Gem -- and was quite disappointed that the Soom mini was so much lighter and fragile than Volks! In fact, resin weight and density is now factoring into which bodies I buy for my hybrids.

    10. I was kind of scared my first doll (a model doll F) would be too big for me. I tried to brace myself for anything, since I had no idea what to expect.

My next doll was pretty much the same size (70 cm), so when I had the wonderful luck to obtain a regular, 58cm SD girl, I was Shocked at how little she was in comparison.

    11. My first SD (DZ Cherry) is on a 58cm body, which is skinny and just perfect for her. When I got DZ Orlando I was surprised by just how much thicker overall the 60cm body is! I knew the chest was gonna be bigger, of course, but it's just so different compared to the 58cm one! It's just so adult compared to the shorter one, not that that's a bad thing. Both bodies are perfect for their respective characters. Clothing may prove a little more difficult for the bigger body, though! lol

    12. I thought this with my first doll which was a Mini Dollfie Dream - I'm not sure why I was expecting something so much smaller... and even when I ordered her clothes before I got the doll, I was really surprised with the size - but also very very happy b/c the clothes were expensive lol.. so at least they werent as tiny as I imagined them to be! hehe

    13. My first boy is going to be a 70cm. I keep looking a photos of dolls his size and seeing them in relation to human bodies, trying to get an idea of how big he will be... But I am looking forward to the surprise. I'm pretty sure no amount of measuring will prepare me for him, and I look forward to that.

    14. When I first saw my Angeldolls Shakan I was shocked. It was (and still is) HUGE. That's why the nickname Megatron. xD

Also when I got my resinsoul Bei, I couldn't believe my eyes how small and cute it was. Totalle different from Megatron..

    15. I had read comments from people saying, "wow, this doll is so much larger than I expected!" when they received their first MSD, so I kind of expected to feel the same. But I didn't at all. He was slimmer than I had thought, and, well, smaller too. However-

Somehow, I seemed to think while handling MSDs that they were, oh, say, Barbie-sized. I haven't seen my own Barbies in almost 20 years and it's been ages since I last looked at any in a shop. Now, I went to a toy museum with a friend a while ago and, seeing the Barbies there, I discovered that they were so much smaller than I remembered :P.

Conclusion: my sense of size is just a teensy bit off. But now I get it: MSDs are NOT small. My 16 cm tiny is small. A Realpuki is teensy. I have learnt a lot! ;)

    16. The bigger they are the harder they fall and thats what scares me so Im gonna stick with MSD size

    17. I have been floored both ways, when my pukipuki arrived she was sooooo small, I wasn't ready for that, I'd expected her to be smaller but...whoa. Now she's not even my smallest! And when I received my first MSD I was under the impression for some reason that she would be...you know... a little bigger than a barbie or something? I can't even imagine 70cm O.O oh dear.

    18. When I received my first and only doll Chalco, even though I knew his size, I was quite surprised because, boy, he is big! xD

    19. My first doll was 46cm. I took out 46cm on a tape measure so I knew how big it was, but I was still surprised by his size when he first arrived. He seemed huge to me. After having him a couple years he didn't seem so big and I got a 60cm. I was expecting him to be HUGE but he never seemed that big to me. Though I see other people's 60cm dolls and think they're huge and then I stand up Jaden next to them and they're the same height. I think cuz Jaden is pretty slim for an SD.

And I don't have a Realpuki, but the first time I saw one I was really surprised at how itty bitty they are. I never actually looked at their size and just assumed they were the same size as Pukipuki's only a different style.

    20. when i got my MSD i though "i wish she was bigger" and when i got my SD i though, whoa he is big! i like the SD's though! i am getting a yosd Saturday and that will be an interesting.
