1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Wrong Face Up? SOLVED

Nov 24, 2007

    1. I have rubbing alcohol at home as well as non-acetone nail polish remover... I think someone used that product before.

      I think most things are resolved...

      Yays.

    2. I use on a regular basis non acetone nail polish remover
      It takes a while, and I also use it in conjunction with magic eraser

    3. Yep, non-acetone nail polish remover is ok too, my best friend uses that. ^_^ Just be careful that it's not a funny color, like blue. I had tried using el-cheapo blue like that and it dyed my doll. x___x (I was able to get rid of the color with light sanding and isoproyhl alcohol though...)

      My friend's nail polish remover is pink and she hasn't had a problem...^^;

    4. Thanks for the advice ^^

      Oh dear... I have to send the arm and upper thigh parts back to Soom, which means, taking my doll apart.

      Unfortunately, I have 0 experience with unstringing and restringing. I'd be more likely to break something than anything.

      I'm wondering if maybe I could just send the head part back to Soom, and ask for the replacement arm and thigh parts along with a restringing manual. I believe that they sent one to another person along with her replacement part before.

      They are so nice. I just don't want to be any trouble.

      -thinks-

    5. There are quite a few tutorials that explain how to restring and unstring. If you want, I have a soom body and could talk you through it. Once you get the hang of it, it's not bad at all.

    6. Its not that hard to restring, though having a restringer makes it easier. There are instructions on how to restring GEM dolls on their FAQ page, if you want to have a look.

    7. Well... I tried removing the pink lines with the rubbing alcohol, sort of how CLover suggested.

      Didn't work!!!! T_T

      Should I then let Soom know and send the entire doll back? These lines seem to be in the resin.

      -flails arms and cries- This is getting out of hand. They may replace a few parts... but honestly not a whole doll... And I doubt they'd sand these lines off for me.

      Or will Soom even accept a whole doll back? I think not.

    8. They do offer a seam sanding service, but it's $40-$50. (check under the "face up" category on the site.)

      You might be able to find someone on here who can do it for cheaper, but if don't want to do the restringing (I understand how you feel about not wanting to restring it, it's kinda scary) it might be the best option to ask if you can order the sanding option in addition to fixing the face up/orange arm.

    9. Though... sanding might not get these pink lines off...

      One of these lines is actually not on the seam. They might have been drawn on, but I worked for several minutes on just one of them. Clover told me that they are normal but... I really can't get them off.

      I don't want to risk having someone else try and fail... Because then too much time would have passed and then they certainly wouldn't want the doll back.

    10. Hmm...

      Try to get a picture of the lines not on the seams and stress that these lines are not a result of the casting/not normally on dolls, or that you don't believe that the lines are because of the seams, which are normal. (I haven't seen pink lines on dolls except for the seam lines, even then they're not super pink) If Soom says they're normal, though, I dunno if there is much else you can do.

    11. OH! I just thought of something that I didn't think of before. o_o The lines *might* come off with sanding, if they are drawn on, or just on the surface. (Though if they were, the alcohol should have taken them off....) If you haven't sent your Godo back yet, take a look INSIDE one of his parts (where the strings go through, you know?), maybe a leg/arm or something, and see if you can see any of those lines on the inside. Doing this under a light is probably best, just incase they're hidden in the shadows or something..^^;

      If you CAN see them on the inside, its most DEFINATELY something with the resin. If you can't, it might not be.

      What did Clover say about the pictures you took? (I apologise that I signed off so early last night without saying anything. >_<)

    12. I sent the pictures on Tuesday, but I am still waiting for a reply... This is getting to be very stressful. It is not mixing will with my final projects for college.

      The lines are visible on the outside. Personally, I think that the dye pigment got concentrated at the seams, thus creating those pink lines. I'd sand, but I really don't know how to. Since I will be sending the head and arm back, I'm tempted to send the whole doll back and ask for sanding (which I'd buy of course). Maybe they can also smooth the chip in the ear down too. o.O (actually, it's not a chip. Some of the resin flaked off. It's weird).

      I'm still waiting to see what they might say, however. If I buy the sanding option, then I will probably have to pay shipping both ways, which would total to about $120.

    13. Hmm...I'm assuming that these lines are on the entire doll? Including the arm that you will be sending back? Maybe ask them to take a closer look at those lines on the arm and ask what to do about them...? Just a thought.

      I understand if you want to send the whole doll back and ask for sanding, though I don't know if I agree that you should have to pay for the shipping...
      And sanding really isn't that hard, just get a really fine grain sandpaper and just rub in a gentile, circular motionion. There's tutorials in the customizing forum I believe...>.>; (I'll see if I can find a good one for you.)

      ::Edit::
      This is a good thread about just general sanding questions (the grit to use and wet vs. dry kind of stuff)
      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4165&highlight=sanding

      And here's an actual tutorial with pictures (she does body blushing in it too, but you can just ignore that part if you want...^^; )

    14. Well, I'm sending the head and arm part back to Soom.

      It's solved, I guess.

      Thank you for the sanding tutoials. I'll take a look at them. Soom said they could give me some sanding paper as a gift but... oh, I'm not sue. I might as well leave the lines be.

      Although, I have sanded plastic before for several cosplay props before. It won't be difficult for me. My biggest concern is being too lazy to get myself a mask and inhaling all the resin ^^;

      In the end, I am not very satisfied. This has caused me so much drama that I really don't even feel like owning the doll anymore... Though I guess I might warm up to him again.

    15. Awww...I was afraid that was going to happen...Y-Y

      I'm glad it's solved, but that's so sad that you're so dissatisfied...getting your first doll is usually a wonderful experience, I'm sorry it didn't go well for you..u_u

      I hope when you get your Godo's head back (and his arm) that you like the face-up much more. That may help a bit..
