Your Collection of Floating Heads: Planning or Collection?

Aug 20, 2012

    1. What kind of heads do you have or look for?
I never really look for heads but I have a VOLKS old F-05 head and a DearSD SwD Megu head currently. Both were gifts from a friend.

Do you have mulitples of the same head?
Technically my entire collection is the same head so yes, many:sweat

What were your original plans for the heads?
My original plans for the heads are not totally solid as I've had them less than 6 months at this point.
For the old F-05, I want to find her an original VOLKS oldskin body (the solid-torso one) but I waffle with getting her a suwarikko body or an SDGr Una body. I really love the oldskin body and have always wanted one though so I think I'll eventually go with that one, it's just taking a while to find the right one.
As for the DearSD SwD Megu head, I'm not quite sure what body I want for her yet but am naturally leaning towards a DearSD body.

Will you continue to search for and purchase interesting heads whether or not they become part of a doll?
No, I'm not really on the hunt for any other resin BJD heads. I am on the look out for some DD heads but it's not a priority at the moment.

What is the main reason you have not made your heads into anything yet?
The main reason that I haven't done anything with my heads yet is that work is super busy at this time of year (along with other priorities like Visa renewals and taxes) and in the little time I have had to dedicate to dolls has not resulted in finding the bodies I'm looking for. I have also not had the heads that long nor did I anticipate having them as they were surprise gifts so I hadn't been actively looking prior to having them.

    2. What kind of heads do you have or look for?

I have 9 - LumeDoll Keid Ara, DollFamily-A Bach, FairyLand Nanuri '17, DollZone BB Jani, AprilStory Minggu, DreamofDoll Kellan, AngelsDoll Lucia, DollZone Una, MiracleDoll Jing

Do you have mulitples of the same head?

I do, but those aren't floaties

What were your original plans for the heads?

Getting them all human bodies, now four of them will get put on centaur bodies, might put more on them on fantasy bodies if I happen to find something of use

Will you continue to search for and purchase interesting heads whether or not they become part of a doll?

Definitely, sometimes you happen to find only the head 2nd hand, what can you do

What is the main reason you have not made your heads into anything yet?
The funds for all those bodies, was once easier when I could buy home cheaper bodies, but with centaur bodies for 4, perhaps more, it's a hefty increase in price. I'll get them bodies home eventually, no rush.

    3. What kind of heads do you have or look for?
Elves and fantasy creatures mostly. Interesting faces.

Do you have multiples of the same head?
Surprisingly, only two. Normal skin Soom Dia (Human ears, closed mouth), and a tan Sard (Elf ears, open mouth).

What were your original plans for the heads?
Everything from shelling characters to aesthetic ideas to 'I love this face'.

Will you continue to search for and purchase interesting heads whether or not they become part of a doll?
Probably. My impulse control is worst with floating heads.

What is the main reason you have not made your heads into anything yet?
I feel like 'MONEY' is the answer for 98% of us. Believe it or not, the reason I have so many dolls is because I hybridize and buy secondhand. This can also be a disadvantage if the head you want is a rare or unique skin colour, or has odd proportions. There are heads I'd love to put on bodies, but I need to find the right colour/size/shape first.

    4. What kind of heads do you have or look for?
I have a Sartoria J Yvonne atm, and pending Switch and Iplehouse heads.

Do you have mulitples of the same head?
Nope! Would probably only do that with faceplates.

What were your original plans for the heads?
Filling in my roster of characters I want to shell.

Will you continue to search for and purchase interesting heads whether or not they become part of a doll?
I see a lot of heads I really want all the time, but I would probably only commit to buying if I had a specific character in mind I could make them into.

What is the main reason you have not made your heads into anything yet?
I have two characters in mind for my Yvonne and I don't know which one she is yet, also I need to save up so I can afford bodies. I'm already planning which of my heads will share bodies with future dolls...

    5. What kind of heads do you have or look for?

I have three floating heads, two SD and an MSD. Didn’t really intend to end up with them, just kind of happened. I love elves and fantasy, so any time Fairyland releases an elf event head, I try to find one on the MP. I have 3D printed bust stands to display them on so they’re not just sitting there. Makes me feel better about not having bodies for everyone.

Do you have mulitples of the same head?

      No, they’re all different.

What were your original plans for the heads?

Didn’t have plans for any of them, really. I’d like to get them all bodies someday, but for now their bust stands will do.

Will you continue to search for and purchase interesting heads whether or not they become part of a doll?

Yeah, if I happen to see a gorgeous head I can’t pass up, I’ll probably bring it home. I can always display on another stand.

What is the main reason you have not made your heads into anything yet?

Lack of money, mostly. Bodies are expensive!

    6. What kind of heads do you have or look for?
I don't really have a type of head that I look for. It's just those that draw my eye, or I see potential in for OCs or established characters I would like to shell.

Do you have mulitples of the same head?
No. Unless I produce a pair of twin OCs, I don't intend to have multiples. Although, I did at one point have two DF-A MSD practice heads that were each a different resin shade.

What were your original plans for the heads?
A couple were practice heads, a couple were intended for OCs that I haven't accomplished in shelling fully. And, some were just because I loved the look of them and thought the inspiration would come eventually.

Will you continue to search for and purchase interesting heads whether or not they become part of a doll?
No, hopefully! I want to try to keep my doll spending under control, so I can afford those that I really come to want. I don't want my collection to be huge, only around 6 full dolls. And, I'm close to that right now, with a few side-lined for sale. So, I'm keeping away from browsing heads. Although, there have been a few that have recently drawn me in. But, I'm trying to keep away. I need a permanent body for two heads that are sharing one that doesn't fit either of them!

What is the main reason you have not made your heads into anything yet?
Money. Time. Motivation. Inspiration. Other dolls. Other hobbies. Take your pick; I have many reasons (or, perhaps, excuses) for not graduating these heads into full dolls. I'm also trying to hold off on this body that I need, more like want, in case a company releases a new version of a particular sculpt.

    7. What a great topic! I never used to like the idea of floating heads, but have recently come around to it because there are so many beautiful sculpts out there :XD:

What kind of heads do you have or look for?

I've only just started getting on the rolling head bandwagon. The heads I currently own are DF-A Susu, CP Juri 08 and Soom Chrom. I'm waiting on a Pygmalion Kyle, Magimapoon Chau Lai head and a character head sculpted after a singer from China.

I've recently started to lean towards the more realistic looking sculpts. LLT, Pygmalion, Rugged Realism, etc are some of my favourites, but I don't physically own any heads from those companies yet.. ._. There are some that aren't as realistic that I think would be nice to own as well, like the CP Soony, but those aren't as much of a priority, for some reason.

Do you have multiples of the same head?
Do versions count? I have a Dollshe Grown Bermann coming with an added EN head that I ordered for him. I also got myself a Dollshe Amanda special package and she comes with 3 heads! My rolling headcount is going to go up in the coming months...

What were your original plans for the heads?
Some of them (Bermann, Amanda) will simply be alternate heads of the same character. The rest will be their own characters, but they will have to share bodies with my existing dolls.

Will you continue to search for and purchase interesting heads whether or not they become part of a doll?
      Definitely!

What is the main reason you have not made your heads into anything yet?
The idea of owning so many fulls dolls is quite daunting to me as there is also the issue of space that I have to consider. That being said, I probably wouldn't say no if any of my floating heads truly need their own bodies, but that is a problem for another day :sweat

    8. What kind of heads do you have or look for?
I have some affordable Doll-Family and Resinsoul heads that I've used exclusively for faceup practice. I like to look for heads that have good eye shapes and structure, or are easy to mod. I also prefer SD heads as they're easier to work on. I like variety, but not anything too prominent.

Do you have mulitples of the same head?
I don't currently, but I probably will buy multiples of the practice heads on Alice's Collection!

What were your original plans for the heads?
Faceup practice. I like that I can still wipe them any time and create new faceups as my skills improve.

Will you continue to search for and purchase interesting heads whether or not they become part of a doll?
Yes! I like the opportunity to get more hands-on practice on new head sculpts. Some heads also just look nicer on their own than on a body, honestly. It feels more right to have them as a head than as a doll.

What is the main reason you have not made your heads into anything yet?
I haven't developed a bond with any of my floating heads, sadly. I think if I really liked a head, I would give it a body. Otherwise, I plan to make display cases and busts to show the heads off as more of art pieces than a proper doll.

    9. What kind of heads do you have or look for?
I ordinarily do not care for floating heads because having a doll without a proper body just drives me crazy! But as sometimes happens in this hobby, you will come across the perfect head for a specific character and I’ll succumb to that in a heartbeat.;) I currently have only one floating MSD head in need of a body, and one sleeping head that came as part of a full set. As far as looking is concerned, I find I am particularly drawn to Luts limited event heads for some reason. I find them very easy to slip into a character, and they’re wonderful quality and quite easy to get bodies for.

Do you have mulitples of the same head?
I currently have a sleeping version of one of my dolls that rarely sees the light of day, but I have purchased multiple identical heads before to be twins (they just don’t stay bodiless around here for long.)

What were your original plans for the heads?
I won’t buy a head without planning a body for it. Each purchase is seen as a future complete doll without exception because they’re meant to shell original characters. I once purchased an expensive body just to qualify for a floating event head so he could come home complete.

Will you continue to search for and purchase interesting heads whether or not they become part of a doll?
Only if I know I can get a body for it fairly soon. Otherwise it causes me a lot of angst.

What is the main reason you have not made your heads into anything yet?
I have already made several floating heads into complete dolls. Like I said, they don’t remain bodiless around here for very long because I’m always anxious to see my character complete. They just won’t fit into my world otherwise. Right now I have a Kid Delf summer event head who’s waiting for her body, but FF&D is currently waiting to hear back from Luts’ English rep on my body order...so she’s currently in a holding pattern. Fortunately I have another Luts doll with a body she can temporarily share for now so I can at least start making clothes for her.:)

    10. What kind of heads do you have or look for?
I currently have 4 floating heads; Pygmaliondoll Eita, AIL sleeping Alice, Bimong Dandelion & AIL Aya. All of them have pretty display busts, so I can still 'enjoy' them even tho they don't have bodies yet :sweat

What were your original plans for the heads?
I got all heads with the intention of getting them bodies sooner or later- but things sort of went a bit wrong. I ended up buying 2x bodies this year for 2 of the heads- but none of the bodies worked out well for the heads tho (wrong proportions/bad resin match). Now I have one body on the way for my Pygmaliondoll head- and I think I gotta wait until next year to start looking for bodies for the rest of the floating heads.

Will you continue to search for and purchase interesting heads whether or not they become part of a doll?
Yes! Almost all of my dolls are hybrids- I tend to buy heads first and then later on get a body once I find out if the head really is one I wish to keep.

What is the main reason you have not made your heads into anything yet?
      Lack of money!!!! :frownyblush::frownyblush::frownyblush::frownyblush:

    11. What kind of heads do you have or look for?
A large variety, which I like for some reason.

Do you have mulitples of the same head?
yes, I have several multiples of one head, I know that I don't really need it in that amount, but I'm in love with this mold.

What were your original plans for the heads?
First, I bought one head on the secondary for my character.
Then I decided that I needed this head for him in a different color.
Then for some reason I got a lot of heads like this  They are suuuch a beauty!

Will you continue to search for and purchase interesting heads whether or not they become part of a doll?
      Now I think I wiil.
It turned into a real mania!

What is the main reason you have not made your heads into anything yet?
I really enjoy looking at their unpainted sculpt.
They are like beautiful collectible sculptures to me. If I bought them a body, I would definitely paint them, so they stay the way they are.

    12. What kind of heads do you have or look for?
Most of my floating heads came to me because they were difficult to find at the time and got them on a split.

Do you have mulitples of the same head?
      Nope (fortunately)

What were your original plans for the heads?
I'd decide that certain character needed a specific head and would overthink it and end up buying the doll, but I oftenly hated the way its body standed and therefore, sell it to keep looking for a "better" option that never came (as for now).

Will you continue to search for and purchase interesting heads whether or not they become part of a doll?
I probably will, because they're really pretty and I'm weak

What is the main reason you have not made your heads into anything yet?
Couldn't find a body I like enough to keep

    13. What kind of heads do you have or look for?
I'm waiting on or saving for heads that are lovely and come from companies I probably couldn't afford a full doll from now.

Do you have mulitples of the same head?
      Nope

What were your original plans for the heads?
practice face ups, see if the right body comes along.

Will you continue to search for and purchase interesting heads whether or not they become part of a doll?
Yes, I like how androgynous some sculpts can be, and floating heads bring the possibility of playing with gender in another way. I liked how some companies, like Dragon Doll would let you pick a male or female body for the same sculpt and this gives the same choices.

What is the main reason you have not made your heads into anything yet
Why do any of us not have a thousand dolls? Money, space, availability.

    14. What kind of heads do you have or look for?
Half of my dolls started out as floating heads  I do normally choose a head sculpt first so if the head becomes available on the second hand market head only I definitely consider it. Currently I have one floating head and another one incoming.

Do you have mulitples of the same head?
I have an Elfdoll Sooah and Sooah Reminisce ver (closed eyes). She is basically Hazuki’s alternate head.

What were your original plans for the heads?
Elfdoll Reminisce Sooah - She came with the body I purchased for my Sooah. I didn't have any real plan for her other than being an extra expression.
IOS Valentine - My incoming floating head. Plan to make him into my OC Tori. Hoping that he will be able to share a body with Asher so I don’t need to buy a new one xD

Will you continue to search for and purchase interesting heads whether or not they become part of a doll?
Not sure. I would like to limit the number of dolls I purchase. I’m also not sure if I would like to have more floating heads since they tend to not see the light of day. :sweat
