Your Dolls and Security Officers-ever a problem?

Aug 15, 2008

    1. me and my friend took our boys to the mall once. We sat in the food court and took pictures of the boys on those kiddy ride things. A security guard saw us and made his daily rounds just to check the machines and such.. and when he saw the boy he just kinda smiled and nodded and walked on.. o.o

    2. I've never had a problem with security guards at malls. I don't even think I've seen a security guard at our mall. I do get glances from other people but nothing more than that.

    3. I've never had a problem with bringing my dolls places, except one time when I was living in MA i went to the thrift store and the lady stopped me at the door accusing me of stealing the doll from the back shelf. And insisted that I put him back and leave before she called the cops. I told her that he cost me $400 and there was no way I was putting him anywhere in the store for someone to buy him for $20.

I actually had to take out my camera and show her picture proof that I had had him with me all day. But other then that I've never had a problem with anywhere else ^-^

    4. Oh my goodness, could you imagine someone thinking such a thing?!
I don't know what I would have done if the cops had showed up and taken him out of my arms, while he was put back on a shelf and marked for $20!!! D:

I think the best idea is to go straight to the nearest employee when you walk into a store and let them know you're bringing your doll in.
That way they can either give you a little sticker,or simply remember that you brought it in. :)

      That's my plan anyways!

    5. I don't know how someone can't know what their own store sells. I work in a petrol station and I know exactly what we have for sale. I can imagine that I would be the same if I worked in a toy store too! Especially if we didn't sell any other BJDs  What happened to CCTV? Wherever you go in the UK you will be on a camera. If I brought my doll into a small shop I could guarantee they have some kind of surveillance equipment. You can request that they review their tapes.

I think I would cry if someone accused me of stealing and then demanded I put my beloved doll on their shelf.

    6. I wouldnt worry about it to much since they dont sell BJDs in the mall ( or any mall that I have seen here in the U.S )

as long as you dont get rowdy and hang out with lame people who act stupid in malls then you should be fine.

    7. I flew with my dolls twice, and in the security at the airport, they just giggled, mostly.
One was really curious and asked what it was, where I got it, how much it cost, etc.

Mostly they were really nice, just curious. :]

    8. If my new boy gets here before I leave to visit my parents I'll have to go through airport security... I'm a little bit nervous about that but this thread has helped a bit.

    9. I have never once had a problem with taking my doll to the mall, I guess it helps to work there and almost all the security knows who I am and were I work. But our mall is not big.
I think we had a problem at Wal-Mart tho long ago, We walked in and asked for a sticker so we wouldn't have a prob. So when we went to leave this one lady gave us hassle and we showed them the sticker and told her that this is our doll (I can't rem who's doll it was) and we asked for a sticker before we came in. I guess wrong sticker, we pointed our Wal-Mart wouldn't ever sell these kind of dolls they cost too much. So if I had my doll there I leave em in the bag.
I'm also the type of person who would be happy if some lame rent a cop came and told me to put them away cuase it was upseting someone else, awwww poor babies get over it. >> But thats how I am.

    10. Just don't put Sapphira in with liquids/bottles of more than 3.4 ounces (100ml), wine bottle openers, exacto knives, windproof lighters, nail polish remover, rubbing alcohol, lighter fluid, machetes, fully loaded semi-automatic handgun clips and hand grenades and you'll be fine.

The yoga bag idea is a fine one, and probably will not cause the x-ray tech to go WTF. The less crammed and crowded the bag is, the less likely there will be a reason for a bag check. The elastic and hooks might look strange on the x-ray monitor to a tech, but unless the tech is THAT much of a n00b and is still in training, it probably will not be stopped.

Yes, I know how this works.

      ;)

    11. I probably wouldn't...but I'm SUPER paranoid. When I took a doll in my hand luggage to NYC the x-ray scanner people felt the strange urge to empty out my WHOLE bag of hand luggage and...gasp...the lady had SUPER long finger nails and they were scratching all over her face! *sweat*
soon as I got on the plane I spent most of the flight inpsecting for faceup damage, but she was luckily alright. I'd rather risk a couple scratches than my suitcase with dollies in getting lost in baggage control.

    12. 1) If the officer wasn't wearing the standard issue blue latex gloves before reaching into a strange bag, she was being an idiot. If she wasn't, she'll regret that next time she opens up a bag filled with soiled underwear. Long fingernails or not, it should not be able to scratch through the latex.

      2) It's the bag owner's responsibility to inform the officer that there's something breakable or fragile in the bag. If the officer fails to heed the warning, it's on their head. Don't just hand the bag over and assume the officer knows how to handle your stuff, because this is not always so.

All else fails, ask for a private screening. It cannot be denied. If it is, demand to see a manager because that's grounds for a lawsuit.

    13. Ooh, those are some very good tips. I took my girl in my carry on bag on my last trip - but she also had her protective mask on her face. I didn't tell anyone she was all that fragile, because the most fragile part was covered, and if they got that far, I'd tell them. (I was ready to even show them how to open her head, if need be XD)

Fortunately, nothing like that ever came up, and she passed through just fine.

    14. When I get my doll, I want to take him to the mall too xD;;...along with a bunch of other places that I go to often.

I don't usually see the security guards at our local mall, but they're pretty nice. Plus a few of the store employees my friends and I frequent know us, so I don't think the whole shop lifting thing will be a problem. Especially because our only toy store in the mall closed years ago...

I'm excited >w< *should have him by around Christmas*

Well, those are the hopes and dreams of my eventual mall experience. Knowing my luck, something will go wrong. lol. O.O I hope not...

    15. Jescissa - In the US we have surveillance cameras too. Of course, only one out of every ten actually works lol

    16. yeah, i wouldnt trust a security guard with the lint lining my pockets. they think theyre big just because theyve got a badge. theyre not even REAL cops. one almost shot me and my dad for longboarding a parking lot once! JUST FOR SKATING THROUGH!!!! he had his hand on his freaking gun. dude called the REAL cops and everything, the stupid lardo. we got him fired for abusing his position, hehe.

the cops actually said 'there are some very nice skate parks to go to instead of parking lots.'
GAWD!!! DX< you cant carve a longboard in a PARK!!!!!! what a shipp-ditt.

    17. I'm a tad bit nervous about taking Uriel on a plane.
Now keep in mind I have never been on one and won't have to anytime soon. But I'm assuming that when you get your bag xrayed, you're just standing in a line right?
I'm worried that I won't be able to get Uriel's head cap off.
Because Delf head caps are evil.
If I were unable to remove it,would they deny me from getting on the plane? Or should I remove his headcap before I get there just to be safe?

    18. I've not been on a plane with a doll, but if I were to, I would just leave the doll in the bag and send it through the scanner. You only need to remove the headcap if they see something suspicious on the scanner. If you keep a bag of eyes in there or something, they might want to take a closer look, but for the most part they won't care. I've been on many a plane and no one has ever asked to look through my things more closely.

      Uriel should be fine :)

    19. omg i'd have a heart attack if someone pulled a gun out on me!! (im a little tramatized in that area after losing a friend from school at the trolly square shooting, right after i researched the columbine shooting)

im glad you got him fired, im also glad he wasnt a real cop. imagine how many people would have been shot for speeding or something stupid like that

what could security gaurds really do about a bjd though?? no store at the mall sells them so wouldnt people be able to figure that out soon enough? there are only so many toy stores in the mall. and most of them only have stuffed animals board games and my little ponies lol

    20. I take my dolls to the mall all the time :) And I go to a mall that has like.... 5 mall cops on duty at any given moment (which is pointless might I add.) I've never had any trouble, but I'd be sure to check if your mall allows cameras. Since 9-11 my mall has banned cameras (apparently to discourage stalking?) and if you're caught with a doll, and taking pictures of him/her in the mall they may get nasty.

Sometimes if you go to a store that has a lot of stuff (walmart, best buy, etc.) you may want to check and get a sticker thing so they know you didn't steal them. With smaller stores (where they should know their stock) you probably won't have to bother. Also, I personally carry around pictures of my doll and even a little card thing to show proof that the doll IS mine in case anything bad happens when I take my doll out. I encourage EVERYONE to have some proof of purchase when taking their doll out in case someone steals them or you have an issue with a shop. Also, knowing stuff about your doll is good too (once someone stole my friends ring, the only reason they were able to get it back from the police is because they described it in detail)

But anyways, you shouldn't have any problem! And if you do, then know your rights! (My friends avoided getting kicked out of the mall by stating their rights once lol) Unfortunately, policemen these days (especially mall cops) take advantage of the fact that most people don't know their basic rights -_-
