Your Dolls and Security Officers-ever a problem?

Aug 15, 2008

    1. Here at my country, esp. with the city I lived for years, there's only certain rules with the mall's security.
Boys & girls with school uniforms are forbidden, except they're coming with guardian or parents.
And there's always security checking with our body.

I ever told the security to be careful with my tote bag, because I have my doll inside, and they're smiling to me and take a look inside + said, "Ah, I see her, very cute." :)

So far, there's no problem with the security here & I hope there won't be any problems in the future~

    2. I don't have a doll (yet) but I know the malls in my area are pretty lax. I know there was even a lady who got away with bringing her dog in XD XD (it was sticking out of her bag) So I don't think a bjd would be a big deal...

    3. I had my first BJD that I got on Christmas ,Willow, MSD AOD Rao, Even though she was bald and halfway nude (she had undergarments) I was so excited and I wanted to show her off, so I took her to Walmart and I definatly had eyes on me!!!
An officer looked at me like ''???''
But I just smiled and she sat on my shoulders and in the cart holding a mini bag of Cheetos XD XD XD

    4. I havnt got any problem yet.
Though when i wanted to fly to taiwan last week, I was really worried the security would ask me whats in my bag (since my girl lies down and it looked like it could contain a weapon), but when it went through the scan, i was amuzed to see the skleton of my doll and the security pasued the video image for awhile to stare. He concluded it was no harm though :D

    5. My friend took her doll EVERYWHERE.... And when I got my doll, we went to Uwajimaya and took our dolls there. We've never encountered a problem. :)

    6. I only take my doll with me when i'm gonna take pictures of him. Maybe because my boys are bit too big for me to carry everywhere or too small that i'm afraid he'd lost.
I never bring my doll to crowded places such as mall..and now i'm afraid to bring them there after read this thread D:

    7. We had a meetup in Montreal not so long ago and we did get some problem..... all the dolls, or almost all, were propped on tables against a wall and the security lady came and told us we were not supposed to expose our things like that.... thank god one of the guys knew how to take care of her or we would have had to go away O_____o

It wasn't catastrophic... but it scared some of us xD

    8. What the heck mall is this?! Geez! I think that's boardering on discrimination! They can't stop every single teenager in dark clothes. I mean, really, I have a lot of so called "goth" friends, and they are LOADS more responsible and mature than the so called "normal" people I know.

Then again, I'm in the Detroit area, so their focus isn't as much on teenagers as it is on adults >.> We have a lot of crime here.

Well anyways, we had a doll meetup at a mall not too long ago. It went perfectly fine except for my friends medical issue. But we all carried our dolls around in our arms, showing them off to the world. We also took pictures of them on the carousol (the little tiny kid one), even though a little girl wanted to ride it xD. I think she was amused by our dolls.

The only issue we had was when we were waiting for my friends mom to come pick me and 4 other people up. We made the mistake of standing in the entryway area, but not in front of the door. A security officer came up to us; kindly asking us why we were standing there. I think he just thought we were loitering. He said "We had a few complaints that some girls were standing by the North entrance with some puppets. I'm assuming that's you?"

I was so tempted to say, "Nope, not us. No puppets here," but I kept my mouth shut xDD

    9. It's not the public that has an issue with me carrying around Nicolai, it's my mom. xD She thinks I'm embarrassing.

    10. Security doesnt feel suspicious towards me when I bring along my dolls, once, a security guard commented 'here, take your little sister :) ', but once, at the airport security, the guy went like 'ooh a doll?' and grabbed Kanon by her head :X

this has nothing to do with security, but once, at the mall, a staff from a cafe nearby went up to my doll and asked if he could marry Kanon because she was pretty xD

    11. Reviving this old thread because I figured it was a good place to ask, anyone ever have problems when taking your dolls into stores?
I would love to take one of my dolls to this really awesome dollar store we have out here, to pick out some props for her- but I worry about being accused of something somehow. :sweat

    12. Several people have had trouble in stores, especially stores that have dolls for sale, being accused of stealing their own doll despite the fact that the stores themselves have NOTHING like BJDs for sale. Some people have had security officers called on them, or clerks trying to yank the dolls away from them.

    13. Yea I think I remember reading stories like that. D:
What should one do in that kinda situation to avoid having your doll taken?
I know the easy answer is just not to take your doll in stores, but sometimes people have to lol.

    14. Haven't had any trouble with security, but I have gotten people that have walked up to ask about my girl or how old I was. :p (some people).

I have a friend though that was bring her dolls with her on a trip and had them in a carry-on and the questions that fallowed from the security scanning the bags was funny.

    15. Never had issues honestly. My current doll who goes a lot of places with me is so tiny I just fold her up into a ball and hold her in my jacket pocket or in my purse and take her out when I'm long since inside the store. I don't really care what they think and despite what they think they can't force you to have the stickers put on the dolls. I went when I was eleven with an American Girl doll I had just gotten and when the woman reached over to stick a sticker on my doll I said that I didn't buy her here and didn't want any stickers. She still did it anyways...I just took it off and glared at her crumpling the sticker in my hand.

No one since then tried to make me put stickers on anything. Purses? Nope. Dolls? Don't even bat an eye. I walked around right after Christmas with my 1/6th Obitsu and no one gave me any grief. An MSD might be different though....

    16. The best idea is to approach the clerk in the store as soon as you enter, show them the doll and tell them you brought the doll with you to look for things that match it. If it is a big store, however, you might run into a different clerk.

When someone reaches for the doll, step away from them, and keep doing so, staying out of reach. Tell them firmly that you brought the doll with you. Have a dated photo of you and the doll, perhaps on your phone, or best of all a copy of the sales receipt. Tell them firmly that if they attempt to take your property you will call 911 for theft and show them your cell phone with 91 already punched in on it.

    17. I couldn't imagine someone grabbing a doll out of my hands. They wouldn't do that to a child carrying a Teddy bear so I guess I seem like a thief because I'm an adult. :p Someone asked in newbieland if they should mark their doll somehow. I guess this would be a good reason to, if your initials are carved somewhere on the doll, they can't say much. And of course like you said, carrying around a picture of the doll at your home or dated prior to that day is a great solution also. You never know when you have to prove you own something. People can get kinda crazy.

I would imagine, even if they called security on you - they would have to prove it was the stores merchandise. These dolls seem pretty unique, I doubt they could find anything to compare it to exactly. There is no way they could keep it and surely they would review the security tapes to see you walking in with it.

But yea before I go into a store I'll just ask 'Is it alright for me to bring this in here?'
If they say they have to keep it behind the counter like some stores Ive been to with my purse, I would just leave. I'm not trusting strangers with my doll. Maybe it's best if I just don't attempt it. :sweat

I couldn't imagine being in that crazy situation, being questioned by police because of taking my doll out one day! xD

    18. Some of these stories are crazy. If our mall even has security, they're an invisible presence. I'd be more worried about someone bumping into me or trying to steal, because the mall is really freaking packed every time I go. You can hardly move for all the people. I don't know what's up, but ever since they remodeled about 6 months ago, every day is like holiday shopping. I hate going to the mall now. lol

    19. Honestly, I'm more worried about other shoppers (or should I say, potential thieves) than I am of security.

I've flown with my dolls a few times, and never had any trouble with airport security. I usually have two dolls in one doll carrier as my carry-on luggage.

I've taken dolls out in public, and the only issue I've ever had is with other people trying to touch them. Once, I literally had to jerk my doll away from a woman (she was going to rub her fingers all over the doll's faceup!) :o and she didn't respond to my frantic, repeated, "PLEASE DON'T TOUCH" comments. Fortunately, she moved in practically in slow motion, so I just jerked the doll out of her reach.

Admittedly, I felt a little bad later, because it was kind of a rude action on my part, but honestly, it was ruder of HER to touch something that's not hers!

    20. One of the malls here in my town has security guards obsessed w/harassing teenagers/younger people. I'd not take a doll there for numerous reasons - but I never go anyway because one of those idiot security guards made the bad mistake of hassling me. I was sitting waiting for my daughter to get out of work
      - I had bought stuff no less - & the info lady across the sitting area kept looking at me. I didn't really pay much attention until a mall cop started walking toward me (so funny - should have videoed his face as it changed, the closer he got). He wanted me to leave, 10 minutes before closing. I told him in no uncertain terms that, no I would not as I was waiting for my daughter - then proceeded to stalk over to the info booth to write out a formal complaint! LOL I cannot imagine how that would have gone down if I'd had a doll!
