Your postman's opinion?

Jul 9, 2005

    1. Before I moved to Georgia I had an awesome postman. I would get so many packages that he eventually learned how to say my name. He started to become curious about what I was ordering because all my packages came from out of the country. I told him about my dolls. He always made sure that my packages were given to me by hand instead of leaving them at the front door. I have to pick my items from the post office now since I moved :|

    2. Not just BJD's but yeah. Our regular carrier knows a doll box when he sees one. The other day I got two in one day. One BJD, one not. So it was a pretty big day for me. First thing he said as I opened the door was "Aren't you a little early for Christmas yet?" But he was smiling when he handed me the boxes.

    3. Our postman kept making comments about the insane customs fees whenever I got a doll........lol...... that didn't help in making me feel better about it.
He knows my family though, so it's not like he's out of line. He never asked anything doll related so I doubt he even realizes what exactly he brings me.

    4. I did have one postman who thought it was very strange, all these boxes arriving for me. My mum had to sign for a parcel one day as I was out at the time and he asked her what was in the boxes. Her reply was "very large dolls, like a Barbie, only bigger and more detailed." His reactions after that were always, "really, another doll?" (A lot of it was just clothing though).

    5. Whenever I go to the post office to ship items I've sold it's usually the same girl. She was in the same high school as me, but a year older, so we don't know each other that well. In the past couple of weeks I've shipped out 3 bubble envelopes of doll clothes and she was there each time.
Yesterday I showed up with a massive box because I'd sold my SD girl. I put the box on the counter and her immediate response was "That's a lot of doll clothes". We had a giggle and I told her it was actually a doll this time. And then she was even more shocked when I told her I'd like it insured for $800.

    6. Most of my mailmans have always been very understnding and interested in my packages from china and japan! They chit chat for a little and then they go.. Tbh its nice to have people i dont even know be so nice about it and not act like im weird or something

    7. We've had a change in our Canada Post system in the last few months. We lost our door to door service, so the only time I see my postman is when I owe customs, which is unfortunately too often.
Our postman is a bit unique. His Mother, Grandmother and Stepmother all collected dolls, so he'd come up my walk wth a big smile on his face, despite the customs, because he was usually bringing me a doll. Funny to get into genuine conversation with your mailman over your dolls. :)

    8. I think it's safe to assume the guy at my post office doesn't know about my bjd, though I'm sure he'd probably like them a bit. He will talk to me about comics though.

    9. When I started acquiring my dolls and goods for them, I had a postman who knew me, and would go retrieve other packages for me that hadn't gone out yet when I'd go in to sign for missed deliveries. He's since retired, and I haven't been as frequent so I don't have the same scenario with anyone else. I've never had a postal carrier say or do anything on delivery, but I don't get as many deliveries, either.

    10. Not only does this postal carrier know me because of my dolls, but so did the previous one (route change), and the one at my old address, AND several of the clerks at the local post office know me. To the point that we chat about things when I go in, or when the carrier is dropping off a package, and he has even turned around and COME BACK a second time after we missed a package because he saw that there was a car in the driveway when he drove by on his way back to the post office. My carrier even came up to the counter once and heckled me when I went in to the PO and intercepted a package before it went out for delivery (they pulled it off the truck), saying, "Don't you trust me!?!"

    11. I have always known my postal carriers -- I make it a thing to cultivate relationships with the people who do services for me. For my part, I treat them well, lavish them with gifts at the holidays and for their birthdays (if I can wheedle those dates out of them), and respect and honor the job that they do. My husband is a walking postal carrier, and so I have what might be a unique understanding of the things they have to do and the disrespect they often face.

    12. The other day I ordered a bunch of clothes from Walmart for my Dad who really needed them. This after a bunch of other stuff mostly for him but also after the boxes with my new BJD's and a couple of very discounted WI dolls for me and some MH dolls I got as presents for the holidays. (Yeah, way early, lol, but sales, saved a bundle, so I had to buy them then. They're all up in the closet till late Dec...) Admittedly there have been a lot of boxes lately because I've been buying medical stuff every other day it seems for Dad since he's been ill.

You know how Walmart is, like Amazon they tend to pack and send in a needless series of boxes. By the time they were done I must have had 10 separate boxes for 5 shirts and 5 pairs of pants. As my carrier delivered the 2nd lot he said and I quote "Someone needs to step away from the computer. This is getting dangerous!" jokingly suggesting that I was developing a shopping addiction. I laughed. But it is true that 90% of my shopping lately is done online so there are nearly always boxes in our mail.

I do still shop for groceries, but I don't have much time for shopping otherwise. I know what it looks like but really for me shopping online helps me to simplify things a lot. I'm so busy taking care of my Dad that I sometimes have to order cat food or whatever at 1 AM just to make sure I have it on hand. I mean it's like thank goodness for Amazon, Walmart etc or I'd be totally effin out of luck when it comes to getting it all done. The kids in my life they'd not be getting any presents this year if it wasn't for Amazon etc and my cats would definitely be starving because I have NO time for trips to the toy or pet stores right now. There has been some "retail therapy" going on, I will admit, but it's not nearly that so much as it is everything else I have to get. Who has time to go out to buy clothes or toys? Not me, sigh....

    13. All my postmen so far (That have delt with me, not my nan!) have probably just thought "holy poop, whats so important in this box that she looks like she wants to tear my arms off with the box?!" XD

    14. My postal person thinks I have a doll business. She figured it must be ... right! (no I don't)

    15. They usually know its a doll or something exciting for me cause most times ill hunt them down ahaha or just stalk though the window. They always ask whats in the box and get excited with me ahah!

    16. When I was home and in school the postman got to the point where he could recognize my car and would always bring me the packages (of course, since we live in a rural area sometimes there would be another random mail person and they would just drive around the driveway and put something in the mailbox about there being a dog at the property, aha!).

He was always such a nice guy, but he always thought I was getting horse stuff! :lol:We have too many hobbies over here! When there is "doll" written on the package he has never questioned it or batted an eye. I don't think he cares at all:chibi

    17. My postman has a poker face. I opened the door wearing a bathrobe and with my hair in a mess and he didn't drop the package. Nice guy!

    18. I have rotating mail carriers in my area because the official carrier is out on disability but has so much sick and vacation time saved up that they can't force him to retire or go on permanent disability! So we have substitute carriers all the time. There is one very nice carrier who always brings packages to my door instead of just putting a note to go to the post office in my mail box (I live in an apartment complex). He's noticed that I get a lot of packages from overseas, but has never commented on the contents. Now, when I've taken doll heads to the post office for face ups, THAT has gotten comments. The postal clerk that asked was very amused by the contents and asked about how much I spent and he was surprised but then commented that some people spent that much collecting stamps!

    19. When I got my first doll the people at the post office made comments about how cute it was, this was due to the picture on top of the box.

    20. Nope, not at all. I fear the post men worse than I fear a doll's journey. I really, really wish I could be friends with the delivery people around here, but they're awful. I don't know that they dislike me particularly, but I think it's a 50/50 chance... could just be lazy unpleasant jerks... here, everyone throws packages. The guy at the office gives these annoyed, 'worried' looks like you're wasting his time... and I actually chased - yes, chased the USPS truck the other day for my IOS Jaguar... Guy snuck up to the mailbox with his little 'sorry we missed you!' slip and when I came outside knowing a package was coming he acted like he was done on my street. After I realized the Saturday hours weren't gonna let me raise hell at the post office and the only way I was getting my boy was on that truck, I tracked him down and showed ID and got my package. I wasn't about to wait until Monday because the guy didn't 'feel' like delivering my package when I was very much at home and waiting for it.
