Your true reason for having a doll?

Aug 16, 2008

    1. plain and simple! because it's fun~!

    2. I got into dolls because... I dunno, I guess I wanted to experience something new ^^ I had seen them on deviantArt and thought they looked cool. But what got me more was the community involvement- Secret Santas, Dolls sending letters/presents to other dolls, people meeting up and everyone enjoying themselves. And I wanted to experience that. The hobbies that I'm regularly apart of don't have that feel to them. (I'm guessing. There aren't many people here to do card leagues or craft-y workshops ^^")
Plus there's the artistic side :] I've enjoyed taking photos as a quick hobby but didn't further in it and I like trying to design things, like plush dolls and clothes, but they never leave the paper >w<)" So I hope that I can expand on those and maybe try new things :)

    3. They are gorgeous! They are exactly what I want to be, and what I want to be surrounded by. It may sound corny, but they dont judge me.

    4. I'm surprised at how many have really deep reasons for them having dolls...

I do not have a doll at the moment, but I will soon again. (sold my previous one)
For me it's only because I am so creative. I need to get it out of me.
I want to sew and design for them, scince becoming a fashion designer have been one of my dreams since I was little.
Along with being a character designer for video-games...
So it's really a creative outlet for me.

and, they are super beautiful, and I love beautiful things! <3

    5. my reason for getting this dolls is because they are beautiful and because i draw and make my own characters and with these dolls is easy to make it look like the characters there supposed to be like seeing my creation in 3-D which is great and sergio (my doll) keeps me company when i feel tired and when iam happy or sad, etc. he motivates me to do something thats the main reason

    6. I think I bought the first one out of curiosity, really. I'm very curious and love to try new things. When I first saw them, I hated them on sight. The more I saw of them, the more curious I was about them: What does the resin feel like, how well do they pose, how easy or difficult is customizing them, how big are they REALLY, how heavy, etc Then I snatched up the first SD I ever saw with a BIN on eBay in 2001. I'm very forgetful and don't remember a lot of key moments in my past (like my first kiss, totally gone from my mind. Must not have been that great XD) but I do remember recieving the box, opening it and experiencing owning a doll for the first time.

Unfortunately for me, it quickly became an addiction and now there are 12 of them :sweat

But that curiosity lead me to learn about a lot of other things like sewing, painting, carving and such so I can't say I regret the addiction

    7. You are so right.

    8. Simply because they are beautiful and I like to surround myself with beautiful things. BJDs specifically because I like being able to change their look. Because of this, I don't need every doll that comes out in a line in order to get a variety, such as with Ellowyne. It is a lot less costly and takes up a lot less space.

I also enjoy sewing and have even sold my items before so creating beautiful clothing for them is a hobby as well as a bit of a profit. It is a great creative outlet.

    9. Well, my actual reason is that i want to have my characters in a tangible form, so i can really touch them, and see them in various poses even without the need to draw them over and over again, and maybe try new clothes on them before making they wear said clothes in the stories/comics they're from. :)

    10. My reason for wanting to get a BJD is I love to take pictures and create new looks for things, and a BJD would be a perfect model for me, I'd have a model at my fingertips at all times, ya know?

    11. The main reason I decided to get a BJD because they look really beautiful!! I hated barbies or any alike dolls when I was small...lol but BJD is so different and stunning!!:D

I've only planned to have one about 2 years ago...
since I'm a cosplayer myself... I really like to take photographs at beautiful scenes, however, as I'm in UK... and I don't think myself suits the western costumes at all:sweat
that's why I wanted to own a BJD as a perfect model instead of wasting all the beautiful scenes!

    12. I liked the modifiability of the dolls - it is what attracted me in the first place. The second attractant was the commerce - I imagined I could start a miniature business. Of course that never happened but my reason for staying in the hobby is still the reason which attracted me to it. There is no artistic experience like it so far - modifying a doll. I really enjoy it.

    13. I've always loved dolls. I played with American Girl dolls and Barbies when I was younger. Those are great and all, but they are so...static. BJD are so different, I haven't seen two that are the same unless they were meant to be.

I don't think I've grown up a ton, but now I play with different dolls. :3

    14. My true reason? Because I want to.

    15. Honestly I was lonely and wanted someone to talk to. And as an artist I needed a muse. So I started with Wolf and Corvas. Then about 8 months later on a birthday/christmas splurge Jareth joined our family. I know it sounds weird but Jareth and I have this crazy link. I got him when I was in a bad depressed state and he helped pull me out of it.

    16. I have several reason. The initial reason was because I just loved their little faces. As soon as I saw them, all of my OC's jumped and screamed "I WANT." But, more so now, I use my girls for drawing and crafts (I ruuuuv to make clothes and things for them.) And, above all, they are just pleasant to have around. It's kind of strange to say that they are the physical embodiment of characters I write about that I can hold and pose and fiddle with when I'm stuck with a story. Works wonders when I'm stuck!

    17. Companionship definately. I mean, I have pets, I have family, but what happens when they die? I can't have children (and don't want to), so why not go for the resin?
Besides, they are so aesthetic, and I can do artistic things with them.

    18. To sew clothes for. Really that's how i justified buying her in the first place. Also probably a muse to create art as well.

    19. I just like them. I never liked Barbies or any other related fashion dolls, but I really like these. And I know this is going to sound odd... but I like the way the resin feels. My sight is not good without strong correction, and I do a lot by touch when I don't feel like having my contacts in and glasses on. So, yeah....I like the way they feel.

    20. My reason was to make clothing for them (Aspiring fashion designer here!) Then I realised my artistic side and I can draw them.. but then I kept looking.. and I wanted more and more.. and more >< AH well I think I'll be having many many reasons for them. I'll have my ways of getting more. ^^
