Your true reason for having a doll?

Aug 16, 2008

    1. Oh wow, hmmm my reason would be my love for creating characters and concepts
I seem to have my own little encyclopedia of my characters and creatures and monsters and when i found these dolls . I thought to myself instantly "I CAAAN BRING A CHARACTER PARTIALLY TO LIFEEE!!! O____________________________o" --like the crazy mad scientist i am xD
It's a dream of every design/concept artist to bring their character into hands c:
not...a very good reason of getting them...but it's mine xD

    2. Behcoz dey is pretty and I likes dem! ^_^

      Yeah, that's about it! XD

      Raven

    3. My "real" reason is simply that I love art in all its forms, and BJDs encompass so many of those with their customization potential, it only made sense for me to get one. Not to mention all the disposable income I currently have. :P

    4. I like the challenges having a doll poses. My girlfriend sews, and I do body blushing, and we both do the face-ups, posing, and taking pictures. It's something that I can work at, and something that calms me. I like performing the basic maintenance keeping them at their best and posing them however I like, depending on my mood.

As a writer and someone who RPs, it helps me to have the character right there where I can see them. Just as you can never really know a character until you write about them, you can't really know them until you see them. Or at least, that's how it works for me. Having them there, with their various moods and expressions, helps me get in their heads a little easier, letting me write for them.

    5. I got my first doll as an outlet, because at that time I had my 3-years-dream crushed underfoot |D And so I was depressed and was wonering how I'll survive untill '09 ends, when suddenly I saw a bjd doll in real life. There was tiny doll shoes, and then when I took one doll in my hands, it was havy and loosely strung, so it moved it my hands easily. It was a shock, and nearly month after I ordered my first doll. I was distracting myself with dollie hobby, tiny doll clothes and pretty look of my girl. But soon it grown from outlet in true affection for my dollies. I like to dress them and make pictures of them, but at most part, I love to cuddle them. That's kinda strange, because I am not a loner in any way, but since my dollies are living with me, I cant sit alone in the kitchen or dining room, I always wander around with one of my dolls)))

    6. I feel so shallow... But they're pretty! And I love making clothes for them, and making up backstories and stuff. They're an outlet for my creativity, basically. I could be writing, but I play with dolls instead.

    7. When/if I ever get one, my reasoning will be that they're cute, and probably fun to make clothes for, and I want to take photos of them being all pretty and such. :>

    8. Because I'm an hedonist
In other words, I love beautiful things the most. That's the most obvious reason, but there's also the delight of seeing a story and a personality be born for them.
      :)

    9. I love the customization process the most.

    10. I love having them as an outlet for my artistic and creative urges!

    11. I love being able to customize them and take pictures of them. There's so much you can do with them. Plus I just love how gorgeous they are, and they're unlike any other doll I've seen.

    12. Because i love art, and customization of these dolls is just infinite, i also love to sew, i do sew for my pullip/taeyang so, i'd love to have a bigger "model" and inspiration heh

    13. I want to buy a BJD because then I could customize it to look like one of my characters I write about. That's my main reason. :)

Other than that, they're just totally amazing. All the reason I need. XD

    14. Previously, I didn’t think about it. But now I’m sure that my craving for dolls lately is not accidental.
For me the doll is not only an art object, but also a pleasant companion.
I’m a creative person. I like to dream and imagine what other people do not see.
Also, I believe that many objects have a special energy and we can even charge them! :sweat
If I can get the doll which I really like, then I can believe that it is really special.
And I’ve already found my chosen one! I don’t know why, but I just feel that I want to be with her ... :sorry

    15. 'Cause I'm lonely :( *sniff sniff*

    16. I think my 'real' reason for having a doll is that it helps me to keep a hold on two things that are very important to me: my imagination, and my mis-spent youth. ;)

When i was a kid I spent hours playing with my action figures and toys, and having BJDs is much the same... only with more customisation options. And bigger, generally speaking! I love that about them, and I love sitting around playing with my dolls. It reminds me of a much simpler and easier time in my life, when I had nothing else to do but play in my own little fantasy world. ;)

    17. For me the beauty of their faces and the detail clothing attracts me the most. I also love their poseability level. I love looking at them, mine or anyones.

    18. My 'true' reason seems to change as I get older.

When I first saw them, I was 13 and you had to go through a special shopping service. The only company I knew was Volks. At the time, I was in love with anything asian and anime-esque. I never owned one at this time, though.

I got my first doll, a Dollfie Dream, for my 16th birthday from my Mom. At that time, I wanted one (and owned one) because I was in high school, wanted to be different, and thought they were beautiful. I got to create an entire new character - out of all the wants, desires, and dreams that I had and maybe wasn't allowed to attain in real life. She was my escape from reality.

Now that I have gone through quite a few dolls (anyone remember the revolving doll club from the Yahoo!Groups DOA?) - my reason for staying with the hobby and continuing to collect and photograph them is simple. I love photography, art, and pretty things. They are truly unique - each and every one of them - and it is fun to still get to play 'make-believe' when my entire world seems to be in this constant state of flux. I will soon be 22, have a lot on my plate (Navy reserves, School, full time job, bills, trying to move out, probable mobilization within the year, family troubles), and these beautiful pieces of artwork and craftsmanship are a nice way to just forget about all of it for a while and just go back to the simplicity of beauty and fun.

...and they do have a way of making one feel better when one is sick, or has had a crappy day, or is feeling extremely lonely. :)

      La

    19. I have wanted a doll for 5 years... because they are so beautiful... recently I went through a very trying time, lost some of my good friends and my marriage... to the man I breathed for every day... became uncertain, scary and painful. I am glad he, my daughter and what friends I still have purchased a doll for me for my birthday... because I need more than want one now. I believe that in a way we DO bring things to life when we love them enough (You just have to see my stuffed cow warfrost to know that) and I long for a friend who accepts me and wont abuse, abandon or stab me in the back. I want someone with whom I can have a deep connection... who isn't petty, a slave to society... who is just mine and to whom I am the entire world. That used to be my beloved... now... the last little bit of faith I had in the world has collapsed and in many ways I feel like actually deciding to recede from the world with a doll... so everyone would stop hurting me.

      ...was that too dark...?

    20. They serve as an outlet for my artsy side. They make me happy. They are pretty and a good companion to be with. :3
