Your true reason for having a doll?

Aug 16, 2008

    1. Because I have a deep, dark secret.

      I'M...

      I'M ACTUALLY A GIIIIIIIRL. D8

(All those years of having boobs and NO ONE KNEW BEFORE NOW!)

    2. Because I... like dolls?
I love customizing them into my characters and being able to use my imagination and creativity.

    3. To be honest, my real reason is because this is a hobby I can get into that will balance out my other main hobby. That other one involves me dealing with over dramatic people often, so it's nice to have a hobby where the main thing involved in it can't talk back.

    4. i bought my girl and boy to sew mini versions of my designs since i want to become a fashion designer. :) It's good training.

    5. They are so gorgeous and I love them. Plus, they are good for improving my photography skills.

    6. Well, the only creativity aspect for me is the character forming and choosing wigs/eyes/clothes/kind of face-up and all that. But I can't make things for them myself. I have never sewn in my life, I can't paint at all and I was never the one to take lots of pictures, I'm actually rather bad with my hands. (Which is very frustrating with so many ideas that need to come out) Also, being a severe perfectionist when it comes to crafting, I want to make the most gorgeous piece of art and fail to have the patience to practice.

I think it's just that I find them the 'perfect human in miniature'. I love watching them, holding them and planning things for them. They keep my mind busy with positive thoughts.

    7. Well I have several reasons for why I bought my dolls. For one, I just love them!! They are so so so amazing and are unlike any other doll out there!! It may be a very exspensive hobby but, I can't resist then. Another reason is because I just love making characters out of them and just having fun with them, not to mention the attention I get at cons is pretty nice xD. There also great to talk to and calm me down whenever I have a fight with my boyfriend or my parents. Just because of the character I made for them, I know exactly what they would say to calm me down, and its just really nice.

    8. What's my true reason for having a doll? Oh, well... *takes a deep breath*

Because I like them. They're pretty, uniquely customizable, comforting, and very interesting. And as a very artistically-inclined person, this makes them irresistible.

And that's it. I have a doll because I like dolls. That's pretty much it.

    9. my true reason having a doll, well, let see..
to be honest, i don't like doll at the very first place and the truth is, i'm still kinda scare of them, but i need them for a perfect posing model for all my illustration jobs n projects. that's why i began to learn to luv them.

    10. The true reason.. I fell in love. Couldn't get him out of my mind. When I got more than one, I found they are a good creative outlet. I paint, and they are great models.

    11. Half the reason for me getting my boys is that they pose a challenge to me. I have a thing for quite a few of the characters from the Castlevania series and its something of a dream for me to own something similar to the small collection of figurines that Konami has released, yet better, you know? Putting together an outfit, picking out the right eyes and accessories and hair... the challenge it presents is one that I just can't resist.

Other than that, I just find them amazing, even without the character potential that I'm striving so hard for xD I keep trying to hone new skills so I can keep them dressed and fed (to some extent) to the best of my ability. They've helped me to hone my drawing technique and given me more confidence to work with my art. They're just a joy to have around and can be so amusing at times =w=

    12. At first I wanted one because they were so customizable and beautiful, but now as I see my girl's personality blossoming, she has become somewhat of a substitute for a child :) Even when you're a teenager like me, you still want (or sometimes need) something to care for and love, and with a doll I get that feeling without the responsibility (or lack thereof) of actually having a child. So whenever my mom asks me why I wanted my doll, I tell her, "Hey, you could've had a daughter who didn't want a doll, and gave you a granddaughter instead." That always shuts her up xD

    13. Honestly, it was an impulse buy.
I saw this Dollfie of my favourite character and I just had to get it.

    14. Cause they're pretty :| and they satisfy that small girly part of me that will insist on coming out at random moments.

I also like the fact that no one else will have the exact same doll as me, it may be the same mould but the personality and looks will be so diffrent

    15. I have owned and had dolls since I was a very small girl and collected them ever since in different ways, limited collectors dolls, play dolls etc so they are just a part of me and my life if that makes sense. I love all my dolls - they are pretty art works in their own little magical ways.

Bjd's allow me to decide eye colour wig style/colour make up and total look so are the next step from normal collections of dolls that is for me the extra appeal. Bjd's are the next level allowing choice which you never had when a doll is already made dressed and complete.

My daughter said - I have my dolls as they are part of me, my art work, my hobbie and my love - I think she summed it up really lol
      :aheartbea

    16. Well...I collect all kinds of dolls, so no big surprise that I found myself getting a BJD as well! hee hee. For my BJD though, my reason for getting her is so that I could make clothes for her. I love to sew & she is SUCH a good sewing muse. I want to make her LOADS of outfits!!

    17. I, personally, am a strange and baffling person to most. As I sorta have a "dual" personality; however this was only a fraction of the factors that caused me to get Reina.

I too am an artist and have always wished I could have a character finally come to life before me. Normally, I would simulate the character I sketched and would live out a few days as this character to get a good idea as to what kind of personality my character(s) had; you can imagine how this caused problems. But getting Reina helped me out in many ways.

I now have something I can fully customize to bring to life one character that has always been special to me. But I also have a new model that is capable of about 96% of the poses I need to help me further my art along. She is also a friend to me, and although my busy and carefree lifestyle tends to leave her in a corner most of the time, I enjoy having her sleep with me at night and when I feel lonely she always makes me feel better when I hold her. I love her a lot and I tend to be very conscious of her condition. I'm trying to keep her in as good of a condition as I possibly can, but at the same time show her lots of love.

    18. I like having BJDs as I can change there clothes, appearance, position. Anything I want and not have to bother with pleasing anyone but myself. I think of them as beautiful works of art, but do not see them as having there own personality, rather the persona I want to impart on them.
I never had dolls as a child as I didn't want to bond with them or play with them, I merely want to admire them. The same holds true now.

    19. They're beautiful. I fell in love with them when I first saw them at Otakon, and I've wanted one since. But besides that, I'm an rpg-er by nature. I love creating characters and fleshing out their personalities, and dolls are the perfect physical manifestation of my imagination.

Also, I love photography, and they're such wonderful models.

    20. My dolls are all here to look pretty and bring me joy. :) Occassionally, I put them to work as jewelry models when I'm designing, but other than that they lead a life of pampered luxury.
