Your true reason for having a doll?

Aug 16, 2008

    1. I had ONE dolly as I was growing up. She was loved, literally, to death. LOL Now, as an adult where my children have left the house and I am retired, I have time to do things. And all I want to do is collect beautiful dolls and play with them. How silly is that! But it's fun. And, by golly, I deserve it. I think. hehe

    2. Hmmm... I think my reasons for having dolls are partly that their beauty makes me feel good inside. When I look at my dolls, I feel love inside and it makes me calm and able to relax. A side-effect of my doll collection is then that I love to sew clothes, which these dolls are perfect for, and I love to make face-ups and make dolls in general (I make reborn dolls mostly), and I also love photography, and these dolls at just so wonderful to bring out in the nature to take pictures of in various positions and surroundings.
I'll never give up dolls... i'd rather lose my boyfriend...

    3. I have my dolls for two reasons. My most basic and simple reason. I want them. My more indepth answer is I want to bring the characters I have made and love so much to life, I can hold them and mod them and make them into the people I have imagined and thats such an exciting and gratifying feeling.

    4. My reasons aren't too fancy. I simply LOVE dolls. Always have. I NEVER grew out of them....but my taste in dolls changed and of course they became more and more expensive along the way.

Before BJD's (Even as a kid) I'd get a doll and mess with it. Chop off the hair....paint it....make clothing for it. I was never satisfied with a "Stock" doll and had to customize. So you can see why BJD's are PERFECT for me. :)

I also LOVE beautiful things and these dolls are indeed beautiful. They give me something to 'fuss' over and for some reason I always need to fuss with something and change it. Like my Wall colors, bedding, furniture arragement. It's kinda nutty now that I think about it. :)

    5. I've always collected various things and I have very expensive taste- I don't even try, everthing I like just seems to have big pricetags attatched...

I like the beauty of them and the versatility, and while I don't use them to embody characters I do like how the spark my imagination.

    6. There are many reasons BJDs appeal to me and they are the same reasons I finally decided to enter the hobby, all reasons already mentioned. ^^ I have a tendency to collect things I like (books, cds, jewelry, shoes, etc), I'm drawn to all things creatively driven, I like aesthetically pleasing things, I need focus for my imagination, they're an added vehicle for meeting different people (or drawing people towards me).

All those things in mind though, nothing really quite prepares you for when your first one finally arrives home. Not that any of my reasons have changed, but now I can add that they're "good company" and are fun outlets for my inner Jiminy Cricket, among other things. XD

(I will also admit that their ability to spark conversation and controversy is an added bonus.)

    7. my reason for wanting/getting these wonderful dolls is to create and outlet to meet new and interesting people who are interested in the same things i am (excluding my other hobbies and interests, but if they are interested GREAT XD). it is very hard for me to make new friends if we don't have something in common. i have very many touch and go friendships all because we couldn't relate on any subject.

this is my reason for wanting a bjd XP

    8. I'm such a kid inside and I think that is probably why I have them- I love dressing them up and buying stuff for them. And of course, they make me happy! :fangirl:

Make me smile and laugh, so I like having them around. Like I said, I'm still a kid:lol:

    9. I've always wanted to be someone else, and I live through my dolls in the fantasical way. I've always wanted to have adventures like that. Nothing complex XD

    10. Honestly, it's way more fun dressing up and customizing a doll than myself. It's enjoyable buying or sewing clothes for them, changing around their hair and eyes. The process of making your doll as close to the image you imagine them to be is amazing.

    11. Hmmm. I guess for me I want something to keep me "company" while I'm bored. And I like sewing small objects. Doll clothes is perfect. (Though I don't sew well yet...)

    12. I wanted a little friend I could dress up however I wanted. She wears clothes that I never could >_<

    13. There are many reasons as to why I have dolls, sure they're nice to have around as company, that and I also live through my dolls sometimes, creating an imaginary world that I cannot reach in this lifetime. But my main reason being, I could say that my dolls are my models. I use them as miniature torso's for my Fashion Design (even though there are real SD size torso's you can use). Instead of wasting countless fabric, materials and the time to sew a human sized garment, then by the time I finish, it might not turn out exactly the way I had wanted it to. So I always sew to SD size first, just as a sample that I can alter and mess around with before creating the real thing in human size, I find it much more easier that way.

    14. To me,i get a doll for modelling and also customising..
I like to design and make clothes,so i thought buying a doll as the model would be perfect.. :XD:

    15. They're pretty =3

    16. Alex (the character he was first, not the doll he became) was my reason for getting a doll. i just wanted him real. or, as real as he could ever be....

    17. As for me, I do think my dolls will be my best companies... I came to US last year from China, travelled half the world and leave all my friends and families behind. Although I have new friends here, I still feel lonely a lot of the times...that's why I want my boy to be with me, be my buddy, help me make new friends also

    18. When I first saw BJD's at a Con, I just wanted one 'cause I thought they were pretty! I was only 16 at the time and had no real way of getting one. And after seeing so many people with so many here on DoA, I became a bit discouraged. And sort of gave up on it. Thinking I would never get one. But after I kept seeing them over and over at Cons, they would always peek my interest again. And I would go online and look at more sites and some I've seen plenty of times before. Even if I would lose interest.. I would always come back to it. Then, one day I came across DollnDoll! There I saw their Loren mold, and FELL IN LOVE! I knew I had to have her! KNEW IT! But after graduating, and looking for a job and then finding one.. I also had to think about college and what I really wanted to do with mah life. So, the thought of BJDs just slipped through my mind.. Again! Until last Christmas! I got enough money to get the first doll I REALLY feel in love with. AND BAM! I got her! <3
But what I really like about this hobby, about BJD's is! How creative they can make me. How creative they make me wanna be. And how unique they are. I also love the whole customizing aspect! Customizing is what I'm about! Lol. But, they're so precious and wonderful. And I just love them! :'D

    19. I saw one 2 years ago in a London coonvention, i was totally weirded out, never seen anything like that, and i wanted one so bad!!!!

It took me 2 years to research what they were, and whats especial about them. I have one, and one more on the way home to her dolly mom :) My Dauphine will have a Brownie baby called Evita

    20. This seems more like a meme but I wanted one because there were so pretty and fit it with alot of the other japanese things I already collected. Who knew I would stop collecting other things in favor of these dolls. Love and companionship I get frommy family and friends and pets.
