Your true reason for having a doll?

Aug 16, 2008

    1. I love how you can customize them any way you want. They are beautiful and great outlets for creativity. They can have many different personalities (no two dolls are the same).

    2. For the beauty, and the chance to dress someone other than myself nicely - I don't care about fashion or clothes for myself at all, but I'd want my doll to have the best and nicest wardrobe possible.

    3. Is the love for dolls and their beauty enough to be the "Real Reason" for owning one or several?

My real reason: I appreciate beautiful things and these BJDs are beautiful. Looking at them, holding them, dressing them in their pretty clothes is comforting and brings a smile to my face.

    4. Well I guess its a lot like other people on here, I get lonely during the summer and genaraly a lonely person even with friends, cause I could never tell them about my life with my mom behind closed doors.
Let me put it this way, I still flinch when she raises her hands. Anyway, I have to go their all summer with her and she and I just don't get along and I always end up in tears or a fit of rage and I have no one to talk to it about without feeling.. idk how to put it but its nice to have a doll there, something you can spill your guts out about everything and not feel as if your being juged behind fake concern. They are also great for
my writing and i like to lose myself in writing and art, photography is amazing and I love it even though I'm not too good. so I love them and getting one for all those reasons :3

sry for it being so long >~< and if i sound like I'm whiny. But that's my reason <3

    5. Lol at first when I was planning to buy my first doll I ASSUMED I would have wanted one because I can draw them, I can sew for them and that I can unleash my imagination upon their looks but the real poking reason was because I always take special home studies so I DON'T have any friends besides ones online.
Here where I live no one around me HAS a BJD, I find my family quite warming but they never really talk to me and we never really exchange glances cause we're all different and me being the only daughter I have no one to talk to. So when I get these BJD's I feel I am no longer lonely in this bitter world. I basically do make them their clothes but I don't draw them XD.

So in conclusion, I buy them cause they make me happy, their like my little friend, roommates infact! And when I have a sad sad time I can just hug them and all of my sadness ebbs away, it's amazing.

    6. I just hope I still love them after the old...

    7. I wanted a doll because I fell in love with the puppenjungs. Just looking at the pictures of those dolls made me smile, because they were just sooo pretty and life-like!!! And so I thought, if something makes me that happy, I should probably get one too ;D I was originally going to copy the idea of making a doll look like Tom Kaulitz but... I dunno... I kind of just want a little boy of my own now, whoever he may turn out to be ^^

    8. There are just so many reasons for me wanting a BJD, and it works only for these kinds of dolls since (I find it weird) I still "hate" barbies or any other kings of dolls or puppet like... puppets xP

I like their aesthetic, their customisation, the way I can "bring to life" my mind babies (OCs) and once I get enough of them I will even be able to write their story! I even already started even though I hate to write and just dont feel like I'm good at it xP

I even re-started sewing and taking care of them really makes me more happy =D

I just need to organize myself better and soon I will be able to take more care of them and maybe show them off a little more since for now they seem to insde into my room XD

While I do not take them as "alive", they are good stress reliever and I just love 'em >w<
I did create them! (Or part of them at least XD)

    9. I used to think it was wanting something to costume, etc., but the real reason is clear to me now- Therapy.

    10. I like them because they are beautiful and I collect many things just because they are visually pleasing. I also like the idea of dressing them up because its like I get to choose from a different fashion than I would wear myself (particularly the boy doll, i get to experience playing with boy trends).

but what really gets me going is I'll see a sculpt i like and an wig, outfit, eyes, etc from different places and I'll want to bring all those pieces together to see how cool it would look. I even do a few photo-manipulations to test out a combination since it's so expensive I have to be sure.

right now i have a vision... a scene i want to photograph. i just won the doll bunk bed on ebay i need... now i just need a ton of money for the other doll and his outfit from ninestyle... then when everything else comes in the mail i can put it all together and show everyone my efforts!

    11. I just love having something to take care of... an unleashing of my maternal instincts, if you'd call it that. ^^;; At least, the idea appeals. ^^;

    12. I'm an amateur photographer and painter, and sometimes it's hard finding a good model -- but my dolls always look pretty and stay perfectly still (well, usually.) I also love bringing characters I've created into the physical realm.

    13. Initially, I got my boy because he was very pretty/cute, so nothing unusual there. XD;

Once he got here, I figured out my true reasons were more for companionship, which surprises me, since I'm an artist so you'd think the customization factor would be more of a big deal. Like Razaera said, maternal instinct. Having something small and adorable to take care of that is so convincingly human at times is really appealing to me. c:

    14. It is hard to realy put it in to words for me. I have never realy liked dolls. I have never wanted to own dolls when i was younger. When I was at a con i was drawn to mine, every time I walked by the booth she was in I keep walking over to her and picking her up. So i think the reason for me haveing the doll is just to have one. I am finding she is slowly truning in to my char Vila Star who I have rped for 12 years or so.

    15. i like photography and also designing clothes (even if i can't sew)
i used to photograph my friends, but they didn't want to, it was fun to watch them trying to hide but i wanted to have more control on my models
now they gave me the inspiration for learning to sew
maybe i will be able to give them the clothes i've drawn for them one day

i also liked the customizing part, its more than just one reason for me ^^

    16. 1 of my reason is to photograph them (though i don't do much now since school is so busy T_T)

other reason is because I love baby, i love to buy baby clothes & cute stuffs (my first doll was a tiny because i want her to be like a baby).....i love to dress my dolls.........

and the main reason is i just want to own this wonderful piece of art.

    17. They're fun! The customizing is what first made them appealing, I thought of all the things I could make for them and do to them. But now I know that I like them as very expensive toys that make me happy.

    18. I'm an artist, and the fact that they're completely customisable in basically every aspect imaginable really drew me in.

That, and I anthopomorphise everything. They sort of call me, you know? Quiet little (okay, big...) resin companions. It's good.

    19. The reason i got my dolls, was because i saw them in horror movies and found them creepy and amazing at the same time!

When i got them, thats when i realized that they were more than just a doll, more than a toy and more than a collectors item, and thats when it got intresting :)
