Name story:

ferne is his childhood nickname and a shortened version of what is now his deadname (fernanda). it stuck and he likes the ambiguity of it.

ferne is a homeless runaway/hustler. he ran away from home at a very young age and doesn't remember that much about his family. he repressed it, but there are times when pieces come back in vague, jumbled bits. ferne never went to school and has never had a job. he spends most of his time worrying about where he is going to spend the night and how he will keep himself fed. he is severely malnourished and doesn't have any people he can rely on. he is distrusting and wary of strangers and their intentions.

ferne keeps journals and writes things down. it helps him work through things. when he is 18, he meets kenny who eventually becomes his first friend. he invites ferne to live with him when winter approaches. ferne eventually accepts, because he hate spending time in the cold.

when ferne does manage to scrape together money, it usually goes towards his medications. he has no health insurance, so he has to pay out of pocket.
