A List of Shorter ⅓ Scale BJDs

Feb 3, 2022

    1. As a short person, I personally get annoyed with how little short people representation there is in my favorite BJD scale, which is ⅓. I collect information about this in my brain like a dragon hoarding treasure, and I thought it was about time I compiled a list.

The standards I use to judge height on, are based off of United States height averages, purely because that’s where I live.

Height of the Average Female in the US:

      * Around 165cm, or 5’4”

      Divided by 3: 55cm.

Height of the Average Male in the US:

      * 179.8cm, or 5’9,”

      Divided by 3: 59.9

This number is basically 60cm. 60cm is common enough for male BJDs, so I will be ignoring this section of the resin population in efforts to find some guys at, or below 59cm.

A Note about Dolls Not Included:

There are some companies that make 50cm dolls that will not make this list, such as Doll Chateau, Dream Valley, SoulDoll Vito, and I believe Raccoon Doll. These dolls, in my opinion, do not appear ⅓ scale, but rather seem to be a tall ¼ scale. Therefore, I am leaving them out of this list until someone convinces me otherwise. I have equally left out Bobobie 50cm dolls, Elliot, Luna and Lotus, as being discontinued and rare, finding information on their scale is more work than I feel like putting out. Thus, I did not feel right adding them to the list. This may change as I do more research. I did add Ocean Moon’s 50cm girl, though she is suffering from a similar problem as Bobobie. However, I am fairly confident she is ⅓ scale (and also I adore her), so she makes the list.

//I am have heard Soul Doll has a 54cm girl body outside of the vito range, but the measurements on their site are lacking, if someone can confirm this please comment with the information//

      aprilstory [AS 13 Girl Body]

+ The IOS Class40 body could be considered “between sizes” as he could portray both a tall MSD, or an SD child (or very short man). The IOS Co head fits really well on the Zaoll body as well as the Light Limner body, so I personally consider the line to be ⅓, but I can easily see how someone might have a different opinion.

++ The Ramie head is actually just a little smaller than the Luv head, I might make a separate post on this if no one else has.

+++ Dollmore lists it as 8cm and like… I’m not sure where they got this number. I had to measure my own Zaoll… I think it might be the chest piece. A few companies do this and it frustrates me. I personally like to know the whole shoulder size from the outside of each arm in order to properly guess if a hybrid will look good, and I’m sure I’m not the only one!

    4. *Slides in*
Dollmore Adams are only 57cm, so they can be added to your 1/3 boys list.
Dollmore measurements are almost always way off, so it might be better not to go by what they have posted in their doll sections.

    5. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up to NOT order from April Story as according to the April Story Waiting Room, they have basically disappeared and have not fulfilled all their outstanding orders.

    6. This is great! Wish I'd had this info when I was sorting out the Macchonna kids. But then some of these bodies prob didn't exist yet at the time... Can't wait to carefully study what you've found & see if anyone needs a body swap here.
I think I ended up with an iOS & a Dollzone body for my boys which were closer to 60cm when I was hoping for 58 or shorter once the heads were attached. Second hand bodies means some confusion as to origin & me forgetting as it's been a while plus a couple of them got reswapped....

    7. I would add Volks SD10 dolls to the list. Both female and male dolls are 56cm.

Also Alchemic labo's Unoa Rowan are 57cm.

    8. 57/58cm used to be the "standard" height for Large girl dolls. SD girls, the original Soom Gem, old Custom House, most any doll made in the early years of the BJD hobby will pretty much be that size. There were also the Shinydoll girls who were maybe 55cm and very petit. Musedoll girls were that size... I could keep going but like I said, that used to be the standard girl size. There used to be more short boys as well before the trend went to giant-meat-boy.

      Edited to add:

These are two old threads from way back covering this topic:

Small or Short Boys - under 60cm
Small or Short Girls - under 60cm

    9. This is is exactly what I’ve been looking for as I’ve been trying to get into SDs that will not totally tower over my MSDs!

The Dollpamm muse line has a 53cm boy- while he is “officially” in 1/3 territory just due to height (by DoA’s standards), the female muse body is 47cm which would technically make her more like a tall MSD.

They have more mature-ish bodies which to me makes them 1/3 scale young teens. (But honestly when it comes to scale, there are MSDs that could be 1/3 scale. My Dollmore kid looks like he’s a 10 year old kid- he’s 43 cm, which at 1/4 scale would make him 172 cm or 5’7”. 43cm at 1/3 would put him at 129cm or 4’2” which is in the average height range for a 10 year old)

    10. Thank you! So glad to have a list of current or relatively recent dolls that have less lanky proportions.
Many of the 1/3 scale dolls I see available now are 8 to 10 "heads" tall with proportions more common to fashion illustrations, than the 6 or 7 heads tall of the average teen or adult. I was researching body options for an artist sculpted head that's a smaller diameter and it wasn't turning up many promising options for under 300$. Vast majority of the bodies I saw would have her looking like something by the painter El Greco. Love their work and nothing negative towards tall dolls, just not the style I'm thinking about for most of my collection. Thank you again!

    11. I may have missed something in the rest of the thread, but the Maskcatdoll SD girls are 57cm. They have youthful bodies, so I don't know if that's what you are looking for!

      Here's a link:
      https://www.maskcatdoll.com/product-page/frances

      And the measurements:
      Head circumference:22.7cm
      Height:57cm
      Neck circumference: 9cm
      Shoulder width: 11.5cm
      Chest circumference:23cm
      Waistline:17.3cm
      Hipline:24.5cm
      Leg length:28.5cm
      Brachium:18cm
      Thigh circumference:15cm
      Calf girth:11cm
      Foot length:6.7cm

      I hope this helps!

Edited to add: 57cm might be too tall for what you are looking for!

    13. The Youpladolls Tamara and Lilith are close to what you’re looking for, at 56cm. They’re not currently available, but the artist might do another preorder for them.

there’s also DoDollsDream Marionette line, which I believe is 50.5cm. They’re only available when the artist has preorders, but they’ve released different dolls on that body a few times now.

for another really small girl, Asella’s Raspberry (SD) claims to be a 60 cm doll but….

[IMG]Asella Rasp by Indifferent Red, on Flickr

The indigo girl beside her is 62cm, and the tallest isn’t standing up straight but is around 66. So Raspberry is probably around 52-54 at tallest.

    14. fwiw I did measurements on my Soph A and AiL Chloe recently and this is what I got. I'm not the best at this kind of thing, so I did what I could and measure a bunch of times, but I can't say I'm right on compared to company measurements. Most of the Soph measurements came from the company, but most of the AiL ones are mine. DFH has a diagram and I just listed them here. Elfdoll I measured so YMMV.

I do enjoy this size and I'm sad things have trended large lately.

      Dollstown Elf girl
      Body Height (w/head) 52.5cm
      Neck Circ 7.7cm
      Chest Circ 19cm
      Shoulder Width 10.8cm
      Arm Length 15.3cm
      Arm Circ 6.3cm
      Wrist Circ 5cm
      Waist Circ 15.8cm
      Pelvis/Hip Circ 22.1cm
      Thigh Circ 12.7cm
      Ankle Circ 7cm
      Foot Length 6.3cm

      Alice in Labyrinth girl
      Body Height (w/head) 52cm
      Neck Circ 9cm
      Chest Circ 23.5cm
      Shoulder Width 11.5cm
      Arm Length 15.5cm
      Arm Circ 6.8cm
      Wrist Circ 5.5cm
      Waist Circ 19cm
      Pelvis/Hip Circ 25cm
      Thigh Circ 14.5cm
      Ankle Circ 7.5cm
      Foot Length 6.5cm

      Doll Family H 58 girl
      Body Height (w/head) 58cm
      Neck Circ 9.3cm
      Chest Circ 24cm
      Shoulder Width 12cm
      Arm Length 17cm
      Arm Circ 7.2cm
      Wrist Circ 5.8cm
      Waist Circ 17cm
      Pelvis/Hip Circ 26cm
      Thigh Circ 15cm
      Ankle Circ 7cm
      Foot Length 6.5cm

      Elfdoll girl (older body)
      Body Height (w/head) 58cm
      Neck Circ 8.5cm
      Chest Circ 24cm
      Shoulder Width 12cm
      Arm Length 17.5cm
      Arm Circ 7.5cm
      Wrist Circ 5.5cm
      Waist Circ 18.3cm
      Pelvis/Hip Circ 26cm
      Thigh Circ 15.7cm
      Ankle Circ 7cm
      Foot Length 7cm

Main takeaways: DT elf body has tiny feet, Elfdoll girls have huge feet, and AiL dolls are really built like 58cm girls but with shorter legs. Also of them all I think DFH bodies are the most elegant.
