1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Dream Valley Mini Discussion Thread 2

Apr 27, 2024

    1. I have a lot of coloured resin. Like a stupid amount. I have 11 dolls in just various shades of grey. I've got red, blue, turquoise, aquamarine, grey, tan, green, purple, black. Most of those colours are multiple shades as well. I don't have one in that lovely shade of blue DV is currently offering so.... Yeah, they make trying to be kind to the wallet unnecessarily hard.

    2. Thank you SO much for the picture!!! He looks so beautiful :D Iโ€™m SO excited!!
Iโ€™m definitely going to need to work out where Iโ€™m putting mine long term once heโ€™s here (I doubt heโ€™ll fit in my already very cramped display cabinet lol)

    3. I feel that, in general with some companies. It makes you wonder if you originally thought of it or was it inception.

    4. *LOL* sometimes i wonder if someone at DV has their eye on the 'Doll you want...that don't exist!' thread here as they sure have a knack for filling some of niche gaps for fantasy dolls!

Aeon Butterfly - JiaLan certainly has a gorgeous resin colour and nice to see a male version of the four arms body. Sadly I think the doll is disappointing in the fact it's a male butterfly, he should have some spectacular wings, but instead he has...nothing. Poor guy isn't going to attract many butterfly ladies :XD:

    5. @Rekka Thanks a bunch for the insight. I'm glad to hear that the posing range is good and the magnets hold! I gather that both arms are strung separately instead of on a single elastic like normal dolls? (crossing the torso from one arm to the other) Since the magnets are in the way.

I guess I'm asking about the engineering because I've heard a rumour (from Chinese social media) that this system may be an issue if the arm elastic goes awry or if the arm magnet gets detached from the arm and stuck to the partner magnet in the shoulder channel. I'm wondering how one would handle that -- is there a way to get at the arm elastic behind the magnet? how is the elastic attached to the shoulder? How deep is the shoulder channel, how would you get a stuck magnet out of there?

    6. @Iron_Dog I also have a number of dolls in fantasy resin. Not counting the 3 in white, I have 5. Two blue, two grey, one red. I had another red one on order from Dream Valley, but my order was refunded due to it being too hard to make. Still, that new resin color is tempting!

    7. Ah, he's still just a caterpillar.

    8. I'm disappointed too. Maybe they felt wings and the extra arms would interfere with each other? Or have the winged dolls not been popular? I do love the four arms and the blue resin, I'm just not really in love with his face, so I may pass on him for that reason.

Oh, and my Ehecatls have shipped too!*
Edit: (Well, except it's possible they've been caught in this suspension of shipping from China, so...)

    9. @Leo Pheonix One of my friends has the large dragon in red with full blushing. She says she's going to try and bring him to DollNorth in a month but he's heavy and large and I think she's a bit crazy to attempt it but I do want to see him in person so....

    10. For what it's worth if anyone would like to have this info as well - since the JiaLan page said the new blue is available on "all dolls" I asked Erica from Legenddoll for clarification, and this is what they said:

"All available dolls and bodies of Dream Valley can be made in this skin color (the grey blue) now."

I have considered the butterfly man a lot too, mostly for the four arms and resin color, but am probably going to pass because I ended up not loving the head or lower body much, and the above gave me hope that I might be able to just nab another cool doll in that resin color one day! A bit of a gamble but I will take it haha~

    11. @Cylunny - Oh, I didn't notice that! Thanks for pointing it out!

    12. I think Dream Valley is doing the new resin color as they have the previous ones. All dolls will be available in that color while the limited doll in that color is available. After that only the standard colors will be available.

    13. I was looking forward to a 4 armed man version (my Moth is on order :D 2 months to go), and although the colour is fabulous, the proportions seem off to me. For example the serpent I got last week has a smaller head and the shoulders are 1cm wider and the proportions look fabulous. It is a shame but feel I have saved money. I also really like the lotus shoes he is wearing (the petal head gear isn't for me though :sweat)... I compared photos of him and moth side beside and Moth's proportions are spot on, and makes his look even more skewed. This is my preference of course :sweat

    14. Sounds like a grand opportunity to make him an original pair of wings to me! :lol:I've always wanted to play with the fantasy film stuff I've seen used in other crafts...wonder if they still make that? Been ages since I thought to look. Failing that, there's always my 3D printer...

That's right! Each arm is strung independently. The whole thing is a rather clever little mechanism, and the little "gear" notches seem to both help with keeping the arm in the socket, and with maintaining its pose. Without taking out the magnet to see inside, I can only guess at its exact internal construction, but glancing through the little hole in the "plug" portion, I'd assume the elastic is tied around something in there.

The plug is just under an inch long. So the channel portion isn't so deep as to be inaccessible. I could see it being annoying if the magnet from the plug comes out and gets stuck in there, but I think if you have a stronger magnet that you can reach in there with, it shouldn't be too hard to retrieve. A problem for Future Me to do Science on! :XD:

(Not sure if this image is working, I can see it while writing the post, but it doesn't show when previewed. Maybe a link will work?)

Hopefully these shots are clear enough to see some of the finer details. If I needed to restring this guy imminently, it might be a pain, since I would need to figure out how to remove that magnet. Buuut that's another problem for Future Me, and hopefully by the time restringing becomes necessary, the glue on the magnet will have loosened and it'll be a self-solving issue.

    15. I come with a tribute of a snake boy to show off my lovely goth boy.
      Meet Orpheus
      [IMG]

My lab grown snake boy here is prefect in every way and can do no wrong. This 4'6" long snake doll could eat one of my smaller dolls and I would still defend him with my life. XD

    16. @Rekka Thanks a bunch for your detailed explanation and pic of the magnetic arms. That was very informative and I appreciate the info on how DV designed the system. Looks like there's a way to access the elastic knot from that hole in the arm, without having to mess with the magnet. Hopefully that won't be necessary for a long time yet! :XD:

    17. This man has never done anything wrong in his life, and he never will! I stand by this no matter what "evidence" might be supplied.

But forreal, he's lovely! I chickened out of getting that particular face for mine (didn't quite fit what I had in mind), but I'm so happy to see folks who picked it. It's a super cool sculpt.

You're welcome! I think you're right and it should be possible to access the "anchor" point in the plug. I tried to get a better look by pushing at the frayed, tied end of the elastic, but the only appropriately-sized tool I had on hand was metal-tipped and kept getting pulled up to the magnet so I couldn't see enough to say anything with certainty about the interior :lol:The frayed bits are super floofy too so I can't quite corral them out of the way regardless.

    18. @Tippetarius - Love the dramatic black-and-white version too - all the fullsets were great! Congrats!

My snake boys apparently did escape confinement after my last post - should be here tomorrow!

    19. Oh, nice to see one with this head sculpt out in the wild! It's a very fun head design :D

I was hoping I'd be receiving my shipping notification soon but the doorbell rang today and it's my Ehecatl! So that was a big surprise and speaking of big, the box is so big i'm a little scared to open it... :sweat

    20. Aww, now all I can think is that after a couple of weeks of intensive feeding, he'll be a squishy fat baby :whee:
