1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    2. No thanks. I don't see myself as ugly, but I have no interest in looking at myself that often. even if it was stylized, I just prefer making original characters.

    3. Can't say I would. I prefer all my dolls to have their own unique characters, and I've never been a fan of self-inserting. If any of my dolls share interests/aspects of me and my tastes, it's probably one or two things that happened by accident.

In general, I don't like to put me into my art. I want it to have its own unique voice, not just mine:3nodding:

    4. I would love to get myself a minimee. But I don't know which doll I would get though.

    5. No, I think it'd be far too creepy. I'd be afraid of a "there can only be one" situation lol

    6. I would love a doll with my body both for sewing purposes and diversity. I've gotten into dolls because of my interest for historical costuming and I think a mini-me would be a great dress form as well as an art piece.

    7. I would love it, but I'm ugly so I know if someone gave me a look like. The doll would look so much better than I do.

    8. No way, I'd make a hideous doll. Maybe if I got a yo-SD that was based on what I looked like as a child. I was a cute kid at least. Jeez, what happened? XD

    9. Evening!

      Greetings from London.

is anyone on the same page as me and would one day wish to own a doll that was made to look like the owner? Or am I being completely narcissistic?

    10. Some people have doll versions of themselves or family members, so I don't think it's narcissism. I don't have plans to do so myself but if I changed my mind about it, I would get myself a BeYours Chestnut. She's the one that looks the most like me out of all of the dolls I've ever seen ^ ^ . I wouldn't want one custom made to look like me, though.

    11. I sometimes buy dolls that remind me of people I care about. But I don't consider them "mini" versions of that person.

    12. Nah i dont think your being narcissistic, to be honest i think i would maybe like a doll with my likeness, but i kinda like that the idea of having a doll that looked like someone i care about instead of myself :3

    13. Wanting a doll in the likeness of your own image is not necessarily narcissistic in nature. And while I can't say that I own any dolls that look like people I know, or that I would want to, I have bought sculpts whose names match certain people I know. :XD:

    14. I don't think it's narcissistic at all! I would love to one day customize a doll to look like me. It's kind of like drawing a self portrait in a way and that's not considered weird – it's fun :)

    15. Remember being a kid and how AWESOME it was to have a doll that looked like you? It's totally normal for kids to want a dolly that looks like them so why not adults?

Personally it's never appealed to me purely because I prefer the escapism of creating characters who aren't at all like me, i'm me every day and find myself boring lol. But I don't think it's narcissism. I feel like... it's such a common thing, so there's gotta be more to it. It's like.. this human nature. Maybe it plays into the desire to reproduce or something? like, having a teeny "you" but who the heck knows, you could get all psychological for hours and probably never work it out.
Suffice to say, it's not rare and plenty of people like dolls to share certain physical traits.

Heck, even me who would never have a teeny doll of myself, I tend to gravitate toward dark curly haired dolls because wouldn't you know it, they look a bit like me and that familiarity is appealing.
Also I believe a lot of it stems from growing up with a sister who is quite literally a walking damn barbie doll (tall, slender as anything, waist length blonde hair, blue eyes... ) and always having the comments of "wow she looks like Barbie!" and so on. As a kid I remember wishing my fashion dolls could look more like me and not her so much, I wanted to be the protagonist! lol.
My magic nursery doll had hair like mine, and I loved this one Cherry Merry Muffin doll I had because her hair was the exact same STYLE as mine was the day I got her. Like with little complicated braids and everything. I still remember the delight and awe that inspired in a little 5 year old me.
"This dolly has hair like mine eeeee"

I think if I was ever going to have a mini me dolly i'd go caricature with it, because that's me. Some ridiculous over the top pirate lady with a crooked nose and big sassy eyebrows lol.
A sort of.. alter ego rather than accurate self portrait.

    16. I remember as a kid that was more than one company around that would make a version of a little girl into a doll. It was really popular. So it's not really a new idea and someone wanting to make a BJD of themselves seems to follow that trend as well.

    17. Do you mean like Doll In Mind's Minimee service, where they sculpt a BJD head for you based on photos?

    18. My new MSD-BJD should be become a minimee, but i need the right clothes for her, faceup and hairstyle looks like me :D

    19. I'd like to have a doll version of myself not sure if I'd make a great doll version but oh well :P not sure why tho :/

    20. Absolutely not. My dolls are all characters from various stories. I would not want a doll of myself.
